Had John McCain not chosen Palin as a VP  do you think he would have won?

No, it would have been worse!    McCain was hated by conservatives, and still is.   She brought out more people for them than not which offset the indes who went for obama. 

Probably offset each other.   But she did not hurt him.   Probably a wash.

Nope.  People vote the top of the ticket.  Plus Palin actually helped McCain. 

Just look at Biden.  He had Huntsman-like poll numbers.  Repeatedly rejected by his own party when he ran for president.  Didn't stop Obama from getting elected. 

Then there's Dan Quayle . . . .

Nope. The Democrats completely SWEPT in '08. It wasn't just a Presidential thing. Voters were out to get the Republicans, and rightfully so. Unfortunately, they voted for the wrong politicians.
