Endomorph:
An Endomorph's biggest concern should be the losing of fat and adopting a lifestyle that keeps it off. Strength training should be done to get a better muscle to fat ratio and therefore improve metabolism. Use moderate weights at a fast training pace (very little rest between sets and exercises). You should lower your calorie intake (but not try to starve yourself) and should eat frequent but small meals. Sugars, sweets and junk food should be eliminated from your diet. Engage daily in some activity like brisk walking, biking, etc., and try to increase the amount of time you spend each week.
Mesomorph:
A Mesomorph has a naturally fit body but to maintain it or improve it they should exercise and diet corretly for their type. Strength training can be done more often and for longer sessions then would be good for an Ectomorph, but you must still be carefull not to overdo it. You should train with moderate to heavy weighs and at a moderate pace, not resting too long between sets. You will find you gain muscle quite easy (some women and even men might not want to get too bulky, but this won't happen suddenly. When you are happy with your muscle size simply train to maintain it). Stick to a good healthy diet to keep you lean and muscular, and watch for any slow creeping fat gains. Engage in and enjoy aerobic activities, sports, etc. but do not overdo.
Ectomorph:
Ectomorphs should concentrate on gaining weight in the form of good lean muscle tissue (some women that are too thin may also want to put on a little fat to look more feminine). Weight training should be done but not too often or for too long each session. Weight should be fairly heavy and workout pace slower (longer rest periods between sets). Diet should be high in calories (good quality food not junk) and you should eat more then you're used to and often. Aerobic and other activities (sports, dancing, etc.) should be kept to a minimum, at least until you are happy with your weight and looks.
In the 1940s, Dr. William H. Sheldon introduced the theory of Somatypes. His theory described three basic human body types: the endomorph, characterized by a preponderance of bodyfat; the mesomorph, marked by a well-developed musculature; and the ectomorph, distinguished by a lack of either much fat or muscle tissue. He did also state that most people were a mixture of these types.

Conclusion
When you know which type you are (or which mixture) and diet and exercise correctly for that type, you will make much better progress.
While some women may think that Kate Moss is the ideal, from a fitness view point she really isn't. And many women who tend to be endomorphic will save themselves much suffering by not striving to change themselves into ectomorphs, it's not going to happen. Conversly a true ectomorph who wishes to be a Sumo wrestler would also be in for a big disappointment.
Your goal should be to look as close as possible to (or stay looking like) a mesomorph. With the correct exercise and diet this can be attainable, and while you may be a bit upset that you have to work hard to look good while the true mesomorph looks that way naturally, at least you will still be fit and look good. And even the mesomorph will find as he/she gets older that some exercise and diet is needed if they want to continue to look good and be fit.

Somatypes/bodytypes = bullshit. Sure there are genetic differences and some people will naturally have more muscle mass than others, but to make three simple categories is quite frankly silly. Only a very small percentage of people are 100% ecto or 100% meso or 100% endo. Most are a combination of the three. And even then, it's very difficult to "classify" someone.

both my ankles and wrists are small as hell for my height, so are my elbows and other joints but my shoulders are pretty wide across, at least more than what would be average. without training i'd be extremely small and i'm definitely an ecto but never had such serious issues that you described.
it took a lot more effort to gain muscle but that's it, and eating 5k calories a day didn't help put on more muscle, it just added water weight and fat. i had to just train harder and more consistently than a lot of guys who could mow their lawn and get nice pecs and tris.
honestly, you should stop making excuses for why you aren't able to gain, being an ectomorph is highly irrelevant and it's the best out of all 3 for having a nice looking physique.

Do you have a tape measure at hand? My wrists are 6.75 inches around the joint (pulled tightly) probably more like 6.5 if i was lean.

yep, mine are the same except a little smaller, 6.6 inches around the wrist, if i pull the tape measure tightly it will go under 6inches in circumference. my height is 6'
i prefer small bones because my arms look much larger when flexed, similar to how arnold's arms looked even bigger than they actually were due to his bone structure. long arms, and small joints are great for bodybuilding, the issue of difficulty adding muscle mass due to small joints becomes irrelevant once you introduce steroids into the equation.
attempting to gain muscle as an ecto, while remaining all natural, was a huge waste of time though, but possible with excessive levels of dedication and determination on my part.

when on aas ectophorm a lot of times have a better answer than what an endophorm would have for example..

If we'd go about generalizing body types, I'd say that most pro bb'ers off the juice/training are either ectos or mesos or in-between (most of us are in-between anyway) and very few obvious endos.
So basically if you are an "ecto" - it doesn't really matter, as long as you have good muscle shape and decent frame, BUT if you are a highly expressed fatzo naturally - good luck on being a "shrink wrapped muscle" bb'er... If I'd think of some.. it's Evan (but you can still tell by his face he's a fat-ass inside ( :D) even when in contest condition. And he has a good structure, when many /endos/ have kind of a "heavy" build that is not appealing in an aesthetic way (wide waist and bigger joints are common traits, which adds to difficulty to pull the illusion.).

FYI, the somatotype theory was made by a sociologist to explain which sort of people police should watch out for, because they are more likely to commit crimes. Not only does it have no relevance to policing, but it was not developed with kinesiology in mind... my 2 cents :-\ and with the availability of gear its not really relevant anyway

I never taped my wrists and ankles. There's all kinds of equations to calcute your "maximum natural lean mass"....Maybe every getbigger can do it just for fun.

I truly belive somatotypes is a factor of many things, including how you behaved as a child through adolescents. I was a pure ecto but shorter at 5-8 140#. But i also never stoped moving. If you tried to catogrize me now, youd say I'm meso ecto. All because of bodybuilding strength training. And if you can change your type, it realy doesnt matter what your are anyway. Ill give you that there are extreme cases. My father was 6-4 155# at 20 years old lol. Now hes 230# at 60 years old and he doesnt even train, just works his ass off.

this could very well be true. I look like an ecto/meso right now also because of training, however I would be skin and bones if I didn't workout. I have been skinny bones my entire life, I have allways been the weakest and the skinnyest. When I was 10 years old in 4th grade I weighted 45lbs but I ate perfectly normal like a kid, candys, desserts, food. Never did any hard sports and then there was my friend in the same class as i was in 4th grade who did ice hockey regularly and was very active while I played video games and he was fatter than I was, everyone had that little flabby fat on them atleast, except me. i could do the vacuum pose back then and i didn't even know it was something special, I just did it.

but I think you pointed out well that being a skinny man has also to do how you grew up as a child and what not, but it doesn't explain the kids who are active in sports but have that soft look in them... because I have never had that layer of fat on me that makes me look like a skinny fat, I was allways skinny.

I'm similar - won't put an ounce of fat no matter what my diet/activity level is. And while I loose quality weight fast, I start to think it's a blessing, as I see all the guys in the gym struggling year round to at least be able to see their abs (while I can see it clearly after a night of pigging out on a ton of food lol.. It's basically just about piling lean mass and not worrying about getting fat. pretty damn great...
