She of course got this notion from several years ago when neocons where tying to make up all kinds of shit to get us into war with Iran. Sadly this lie was told on all of the networks and repeated constantly on Fox so it's not really Bachmann's fault but the media imo.
Michele Bachmann says Iran has threatened to launch nuclear attack against Israel, United States
Says Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that "if he has a nuclear weapon he will use it to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. He will use it against the United States of America."
FALSE
Details of what was really said:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/nov/23/michele-bachmann/michele-bachmann-says-iran-has-threatended-launch-/
-
So basically everything Bachmann said in her exchange with Ron Paul in the debate was based on bullshit or outright a lie... LOL... nice... She may have come out ahead in that exchange but that doesn't last long when the papers the next day are running, "Pants on Fire" coverage of Bachmann's points from the exhange with Paul.
-
This is a lie also spread by Sean Hannity and his ilk. They say "Ahmadinejad said he'll wipe Israel off the face of the Earth if he gets a nuclear weapon," when in reality Ahmadinejad has stated that he'd like to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth... there's a BIG, if subtle difference there.
Besides, why can't Israel handle itself? And why must we put American blood and treasure on the line for another country?

actually he didn't say he'd like to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth or map either. That was an intentional mistranslation. The translation equates to more of wanting an end to the zionist regime.

RON PAUL: "There is no U.N. report that said that. It's totally wrong, what you just said."
Bachmann: "It's the IAEA report."
THE FACTS: As Paul said, the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency does not state that Iran is within months of having nuclear arms. The U.N. agency report does suggest that Iran conducted secret experiments whose sole purpose is the development of nuclear weapons but did not put a time frame on when Iran might succeed in building a bomb, and it made no final conclusion on Tehran's intent.

CNN’s “Truth Squad” examined the exchange and concluded: “The IAEA report does not say that Iran is within months of being able to obtain a nuclear weapon. So Bachmann is wrong.” CNN also pointed out that Paul’s assertion that “they have no evidence” may also be wrong.
Indeed the IAEA flagged a number of dual use technologies under development by the Iranians that could have military applications. But neither the IAEA nor reporting on current U.S. intelligence estimates suggest that Iran is anywhere near having the capabilities to produce a nuclear weapon in a matter of months.
CNN isn’t the only news organization to fact check claims that Iran has committed to building a nuclear weapon. Republican presidential candidates are increasingly making statements suggesting that an Iranian nuclear weapon is all but a foregone conclusion and that U.S. led airstrikes or, according to Jon Huntsman, a ground invasion is the only way to prevent Iran from destabilizing the region with nukes.
Last week, The Washington Post’s ombudsman, Patrick Pexton, addressed a similar controversy and concluded, “[T]he IAEA report does not say Iran has a bomb, nor does it say it is building one, only that its multiyear effort pursuing nuclear technology is sophisticated and broad enough that it could be consistent with building a bomb.”

Thanks Hugo.

Wow, she is fucking stupid. Or fucking lying.
I don't know what is worse - if she's just lying for applause lines - or if she just watches FOX news for her info and she's uninformed.
She was completely wrong here. "But that's not how I feel about it" - Butthurt MB fans.

Iran already has nukes.
What most of you are completely ignorant about is the fact that the current Iranian leadership wants a nuclear Armageddon. Ahmedinijad and his fellow whackjobs believe in a warped version of Shiite Islam ( kind of throwing fuel on the fire- no pun intended) which is dependent on the belief that an Islamonazi messiah ( the 12th mullah) will emerge during an end of days scenario. Mutually assured destruction ( the concept that prevented nuclear war with the Soviets) will not deter these people.
As to Israel- His own words speak for themselves:
October 26, 2005
"Israel must be wiped off the map … The establishment of a Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world . . . The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of the war of destiny. The outcome of hundreds of years of war will be defined in Palestinian land."
(In an address to 4,000 students at a program titled, 'The World Without Zionism')
November 13, 2006
"Israel is destined for destruction and will soon disappear"
Israel is "a contradiction to nature, we foresee its rapid disappearance and destruction.
December 12, 2006
"Thanks to people's wishes and God's will the trend for the existence of the Zionist regime is downwards and this is what God has promised and what all nations want…Just as the Soviet Union was wiped out and today does not exist, so will the Zionist regime soon be wiped out"
(Comments to Iran's Holocaust Conference)
June 3, 2007
"With God's help, the countdown button for the destruction of the Zionist regime has been pushed by the hands of the children of Lebanon and Palestine . . . By God's will, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future."
(Speech, as quoted by the Fars News Agency)
October 10, 2009
"The Zionist regime wants to establish its base upon the ruins of the civilizations of the region...The uniform shout of the Iranian nation is forever 'Death to Israel.'..."
(As quoted by Fars News Agency)
Let's also not forget: Iran's regime is a source of extremism and destabilization in the region and around the globe. Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism, providing financial support and training for organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and others, and is believed to be behind many Shiite insurgents in Iraq. Iran is responsible for the bombings of the Israeli Embassy (1992) and the Jewish community center (1994) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which killed over 200 people and wounded hundreds more.

Whether or not Iran wants Israel wiped off the map is none of our business. If Iran really wants to destroy Israel, then I trust Israel, and other countries in the region that it would affect, to act accordingly. The fact of the matter is that the United States does not serve its own interests by following an altruistic, pro-Israel foreign policy.
Also, Ahmadinejad isn't the top dog in Iran - above him is the 12-member Guardian Council and above them is the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. They're not pro-Isreal or "good" by any stretch of the imagination, but they also aren't raving lunatics seeking the destruction of Israel and their own country.
Also, they don't "already have nukes." And if they did, that would completely and utterly disprove your contention that Iran is seeking to destroy Israel at any and all costs - after all, if that were true and if they had nukes, wouldn't they have already nuked Israel?

Your contention about the Council is false. It's really Ahmedinijad and Khamenei grappling for power at the present time. Also, read up a little on what these lunatics truly believe. They don't care if they destroy their own country and the world. In fact, that is exactly what they want.

Learn about their beliefs from who? A raving fundamentalist Christian who believes that it is the role of the Iranians to fulfill key prophecies in Revelations?
BTW, many of the Ahmadinejad quotes you posted are translated wrong... for example, he said that the Zionist regime will someday be wiped from the pages of history, not that Israel must be wiped off the map. BIG difference buddy.
You're buying into the war propaganda hook, line, and sinker.
In any case, the idea that Israel and possibly even Russia and other countries in the region won't respond to a real threat to their security is absurd - why don't we stop subsidizing their defense?

Howard brings up a great point, if they already have nukes as you claim why is Isreal still here? Even the nuttiest Iranisn knows it would mean their own destruction if such an event took place. We not to stop acting like chickens running around with our heads cut off once in a while and study the facts more carefully. Bachmann is a frightening nut and more evidence comes out everyday they she lied that night and Ron was closer to the truth.

Aren't you the guy who couldn't even differentiate between Arabs and Persians yesterday? I find it amusing that people who claim to know and have "read up" on this stuff always seem to miss out on the simple things like Persians not being Arab. But you keep trucking.
By the way, Whorewell knows much more about this conflict than you do.
The problem isn't Iran getting nukes. It's Iran getting nukes and then every fundamentalist whack-job in that region wanting them. Saudi Arabia has all but said they'll pursue them should Iran get them. Which brings up another comical point about the know-it-alls regarding this region. Which ally has a large amount of influence over US policy, is a mortal enemy of Iran and whose army never sees combat? Hint: It's not Israel.

How about we start drilling in alaska, drilling in the gulf, doing the pipeline, build new refineries, expand fracking and other techniques, etc?
How about we tell the EPA, Sieraa Club, obama, boxer, NRDA, and all the enviro terrorists, to all go to hell and we bankrupt iran from within?

This is pretty clear. If you read the "politifact" link, it doesn't have a lot of substance. They are assuming Ahmedinijad never made the comment. But if you read his past quotes (that you posted) it's pretty obvious what that nut wants to do.

I believe Iran's only shortfall right now is the delivery mechanism. The farther they are able to deliver the nuke - the more impact they will have.
-
Aren't you the guy who couldn't even differentiate between Arabs and Persians yesterday?
I can differentiate between Arabs and Persians. You nailed me on one sentence where I misspoke - I said "Arab" instead of "Muslim."
Now that means I can't even differentiate between the two? Please. ::) I live in Metro Detroit, the largest hub of Muslims in the United States. I live, work, and go to school with these people on a day-to-day basis but I can't differentiate between an Arab, Turk, Persian, Pak, Berber, etc? How about you go fuck yourself.

Yes, we all know that the US is beholden to many of the dictatorships in the Muslim world. In fact, I have pointed that out and mentioned it as a key reason why Islamic terrorism focuses on the United States and the West. It's a two-way relationship, we protect them to an extent and they sell us oil. Likewise, our politicians have a two-way relationship with Israel due to the Israel lobby.

Where has Ron Paul said that the US should throw Israel under the bus?
The only thing he's stated is that it's not in our interest to subsidize and control them. Do you disagree with that? Do you believe that the role of US foreign policy is not to protect American interests but to protect what we think is in the interest of other countries?
-

By saying he doesn't care if Iran gets nukes, dismissing Iran's threats to attack Israel, ignoring the support Iran gave to insurgents in Iraq, ignoring/downplaying the enormous threat Israel faces in the region, dismissing the established relationship we have with Israel, not carefully considering the need to have an ally in a region full of people who want to kill Americans, etc., etc.
I disagree with much of what Ron Paul says about foreign policy. I don't like the amount of foreign aid we give to other countries, but that's about the only thing I can think of that I agree with him on when it comes to foreign policy. And that's because he only talks about three things primarily: closing all military bases around the world, not spending "trillions of dollars on these wars," and ending all foreign aid.
-

So allowing Israel to conduct its own foreign policy is somehow anti-Israel? ???
And I must have missed it, but why should the US conduct an altruistic foreign policy? Shouldn't we be more interested in serving our own interests and not the interests of others?
-
I'm not saying anything about that crap George posted. He's supporting Ron Paul so he can believe whatever the hell he wants. I'm good with that. If he wants to say Iran has an evil clone army awaiting to attack from the dark side of the moon, sounds fine with me. ;D

Israel already conducts its own foreign policy.
We need to have allies. We need to have friends in other parts of the world, particularly near regions full of people who want to kill us. We don't need to be handing out welfare to other countries in the amounts that we currently do, but we shouldn't be isolationist (like Ron Paul) either.

Wow...a real bunch of foreign policy experst right here.....Ron Paul is a fucking idiot, he's not going to get the nomination. Iran is a threat...Israel is our ally. This isn't 1938 and we can't hid behind two oceans. There is no magic go juice that will allow us to leave the middle east any time soon....sticking your head in the sand won't make all the bad people go away. We've been in retreat for 4 years under Obama and the middle east is in flames. How this is clear to you idiots who are going to waste your vote.

To be a NEOCON I'd have to have been a lib...never been a lib. I love the debate here....RP supporters who also voted for or support Obama....RP's foreign policy is beyond naive.
