As bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts we all tend to think differently when it comes to medical related things. So which do you trust in more when you are sick:
A. I trust the innate ability of my own body to heal itself given sufficient rest, nutrition, etc.
or
B. I trust the medical doctors, man-made medicines, and pharmaceutical companies when it comes to my health.
What do you boys and girls think? ???
-
B of course
-
I take care of myself, but I won't shy away from drugs either. Balance is the key (no homo).

Like Dustin said, it is a balance. But I lean heavily towards A. and only use a doc for serious shit I can't fix like like busted bones. ;)

By the time you actually get sick enough to go to the doctor you're already getting better. We're talking colds and flu here obviously, not a broken leg or VD.
Yeah, I know....Jim Henson, blah, blah.

I once got a lot of shit from my family for using "man made medicine" and they told me to go natural while i was sick...
i spent 5 days as sick as dog then had to get IV antibiotics in the ER and spend the night there because of that shit... never again will i trust this "alternative" crap..
honey, onions, and garlic have anti bacterial properties... my ass! I had bacterial colonies growing out of my throat... i shit you not! the nurse at the ER said "oh... oh my!" when she saw my throat.
but... i trust man made medicine... not doctors... 20 years ago i'd trust them... nowadays, it seems like they're in it for the money and to bring in as many patients as humanly possible in a day to get more commission (that's how it works around here)...
not saying there aren't any good ones... but they're very hard to find these days.
as for trusting my body... pffff... i wouldn't trust this piece of shit with anything.

I trust drugs, not people. People have agendas. Drugs are just drugs. I try to use as little as possible, but they can be very helpful in many situations.
I hate people that are against them. Pharm companies are ruthless, but it's stupid to be blinded because of an opinion.

A, but if necessary, B.
The drugs and advanced medicine is there for a reason and is also one of the reasons the life span of human beings has been going up and up.
You should know how to take care of yourself though and not just jump to take a pill for every itch or minor nagging issue.

Yeah that was what made me think of this question. I had the flu recently and everyone who caught it immediately went to the doctor and got a script for antibiotics within like a day. some folks even got hospitalized. :o
I ended up waiting about 4 days. Fever broke and then I went in to make sure I didn't have something serious. Doc said since I was beating the fever to give it a few more days and if not he prescribe some antibiotics to take later if needed. I didn't need them and in a few days it went away.
While I was there though he looked at my chart, saw I had not been there in years and the last antibiotic I had was arithromiacin (sp?). He said it doesn't even work on elementary school kids anymore and laughed. So that got me thinking do people wimp out and go to the doc to fast, then the docs over prescribe?
Just like hormones turn off your natural ones and take over, doesn't antibiotics and what not do the same? If yes, I would think you don't built up any immunity.

Yes, actually in your younger years, I think it is better to be exposed to things within reason to help build your bodies immune system. Eventually you get used to antibiotics and such and they don't work as well anymore... then you have problems if you are in a situation where you really need them.

Yeah that was my thoughts too. Plus I have known a few people that got worse from a visit to the doc or from going to a hospital. But one day it will probably be the common cold that takes us all out. LOL
