I'm not so sure about this.  We still have an ongoing war.  Some of the guys who have returned from Iraq will be going to Afghanistan.  Not sure a celebration is appropriate.

I'm not saying a victory lap is what is needed - but holy fuck - the men and women served honorobaly and bravely and should be honored now that this thing is over, at least according to Obama.

Yeah.  I could see some kind of ceremony.  Just not sure about a parade.

A parade would be a huge target for people pissed off about the wars.
A huge target.
Not sure I agree with obama's stance, but I cant imagine that terrorists would have a better target.

You mean the nonviolent anti-war protesters might harm service members participating in the parade?

Sorry you communist leftist scumbag - some of us actually know people who died there and they should be honored for their service.

If that muslim neo-terrorist sleer cell potus you love so much can find time for golf, vacations, parties, trillions in debt, he can find time to make this happen.

No - Im saying the middle eastern terrorists would be hard pressed to get a better target than a large gathering of the people who fought in the war theyre so pissed about.
Not talking about our protestors at all - just saying it would make a great target for middle eastern terrorists.

(Keep in mind Im a former US Marine, this isnt coming from any I hate the troops bullshit)

if they were capable of doing that wouldn't it have  been easier to kill them when they were in Iraq?

It's not like NYC isn't a large target all by itself

Having a parade is not going to make them capable (not saying that you're suggesting this) of carrying out an attack

Thanks for your service.

I don't think the fact terrorists may target a parade is a reason not to have one.  We just need to keep doing a good job of rooting them out and protecting our citizens.  Screw those animals.

I lost a buddy in Iraq and remember the funeral like it was yesterday at West Point.   He was engaged to be married, the family was devastated as were friends, etc.

Is it really so much to have a parade honoring the service of the soldiers?   It doesnt have to be a victory lap or something gaudy or over the top, but god damn - this moronic govt spend money on ball washing for african libertines and it can't honor the troops?

listen comrade, there are probably more people in my family who have served in the military than you even know and I have never said they shouldn't be honored nor have I even offered an opinion on the parade or lack there of.

If you actually read the article you posted you'd see all the rationale discussion of the pro's and con's similar to what Bum said in his post

I don't have a problem at all with recognizing our Soldiers.  Just questioning whether a victory parade is appropriate when we're still at war, and some of the guys being celebrated may lose their lives in our ongoing war.

Funerals and memorial services really do put a face on those heroes.  Some are only sons, some an only child, some married, some fathers.  Those young men and women really make a tremendous sacrifice.

Its not about killing of the people... its about the psychological and political impact of killing those people on our turf.
Same idea with bombing trains/etc.. its not about the people you kill, its about the impact it has on the public.
By definition Terrorism is about changing instilling fear and therefore people changing the way they live because of it, in hopes that the fear and the forced change will cause whoever is the target to do what they want.

how about we combat terrorism by doing the things were already doing and not being afraid or changing our lives

That's the way its supposed to be done.
Good luck getting people to do it though, they're just ad happy creating a police state in order to feel safe from terrorism. Too many people I know are happy to hand over their freedoms to the gov who promises them safety from "terrorists"

Easy way to get the people to do what you want, methinks.

The money for this would have to be privately paid for.....the bill to move units there and house them would be ridiculous. I don't want a parade....just a picture of Barry as he packs his shit and he and chewbaca and the obamlets leave the Whitehouse.

I don't really agree with this as blanket statemetn

I think some people in our country definitely seem willing to give up their freedom for some fake sense of security and I honestly have to say that most of these people seem to be on the far right.

I think then center and moving left are against this nonsense and also no it's pointless (other than being effective in taking away our civil liberties)

You mean like Obama asking Senator Levin for powers of indenfinate detention and advocating a national police force?

lol @ you thinking that its a republican/democrat thing.
Its a Politician/citizen thing.
Democrats try and take just as many rights away as the republicans do - just in different ways.
The democrats like to take freedom's from people in the name of political correctness.
Republicans tend to do it in the name of fear/safety

Both sides will take every freedom you offer them as long as they can make people think its in their best interest.

Honestly Obama has taken just as many freedoms as Bush and is trying to take many more - see indefinate detention, Internet censorship.

Get off the left's dicksack and be real for a minute.

I'm making a distinction between voters and the politicians
We saw just a week or so ago that politicians have no problem resolving their vast ideological differences when it comes to restricting or rescinding our freedome in name of "keeping us safe"

When it come to actual people I've not seen any example that I can recall of anyone on the left (or center) being in favor of this type of bullshit for the sake of "political correctness".  I do recall seeing/hearing people on the right criticize those who were against the patriot act for "not caring about the country", "being naive" etc...
I also recall people on the right using their own personal fear as justification for restricting everyone

Again, as I mentioned before there is no generalized example that perfectly fits everyone on either side of the fence.
