A lot of people would say that we sent our manufacturing there....and made it seem that our way was where all the money is....and maybe some of that is true.
The big picture? Because we are the rock stars of all civilization. We have enjoyed great liberty do do what we want how we want, and anyone in a 4000 year old culture is going to see us as progressive and impossibly free to expresss ourselves without one fucking care about what someone else thinks. We are surely going to burn out rather than fade away the way things are going.....everybody wants a piece of that.
In Europe if you are wealthy enough to own a home it could have been built 600 years ago. Fuck that, we invent something or start a business and work overtime and knock down a forest and build a mansion. We are willing to do it all to have what we want, and even if it catches up with us we don't really care at the end of the day. That's where Europeans get this idea of all of us having a cowboy mentality. Maybe they have some right to think that because I give not a fuck about how they do things.

Problem is most homes in US are stick construction with 2x4 or 2x6. How fucked is that - building homes that can be eaten? Even in homes there is little permanence in USA.
Build shit with concrete and load bearing masonry for crying out loud! And most home designs in US are boring. The homes look like a 2 year old drew it complete with a little chimney, triangular roof and a little door in the front. Pathetic - no imagination. Sure there are cool ones but drive through a mid western neighborhood and you'll see.
