Title: 2013 Cadillac ATS to take on the 3 series
Post by: Parker on January 09, 2012, 07:25:39 AM
Will this be another homerun like the CTS and CTS-V?

Nice car, but BMW > Cadillac
That Caddy CTS-V says otherwise, which is one of the reasons why BMW had to have over 550 hp for the new F10 based M5.

I have an 08 cts-v. I now have about 25,000 miles on it and it burns oil like you wouldn't believe. Nobody at Cadillac can fix it, so they tell me to add a quart everytime I fill up with gas. Apparently this is very common with the cts's.

Have you driven one?  My sister has one.  Its fast as hell, but it's a rattle trap.  There's no comparison.   Shes had an 07 and now a 2010.  Both have had tons of problems.

Sorry but... American car never matches European.
As much as I like sum' of them and I have one myself (  :-[ ) but... it's not comparison.

Even in america, as soon as they get sum' money they buy European car. Look at Jason Cutler !!

Many modern cars need to go on a diet. I like the ATS' 3400 weight.

and bmw and porshe ,,,not uncommon to add qt every 500 to 1000 miles for at least 10,000 miles ,,new type fuel injected engines cause more oil burnoff,

Rotary engines and their APEX seals use oil like no ones business... I add 1/2 a qt every 500 miles.

cadillac is the reason that the m5 must have 550hp??? dude what are you smoking? The BMW developers doesn't even know the Cadillacs and don't care about them... they care about audis or mercs

the m5 has to have 550bhp cause every new model has more hp than the predecessor...  and cause it's fucking 2tons heavy...

08 CTS-V? They never made one...09 had the Corvette ZR-1 based engine, which wouldn't have anything common with the CTS's
the problem was with the old V6 engines, and they couldn't fix it (much like BMW's issues with the HPFP), so they phased in a new V6.

When Caddy beat the E60 M5's record at the 'Ring, it took notice...even the European rags and car shows took notice and were comparing the V to M5...

It is not the only reason, but part of the reason...the CTS-V benchmarked the M5, Audi's RS6 had 580 hp, and Mercedes had over 500, BMW had to have more than the E63, and definitely more than the V...
It's no coincidence that the V has 556, the engine in the F10 M5 is the same in the X5 M/X6 M, but tweaked to make 555-560. And there is a more tweaked version coming out...

Don't give me that Euro blah,  blah...because BMW did take notice, they have to...

Of course every new model comes with more HP, but they had to go the TT route due to emissions, otherwise, they would have used the 580 hp engine in the e60 M5 CSL...

The M5 is the benchmark, bar none, and can't have it's title usurped, from anyone...
Whether it be on the 'Ring or in the showrooms. Cadillac is serious, and not playing games, just like Lexus was serious...and you know how Mercedes and BMW slept on Lexus.

the point is: cadillacs only count in US and if you talk about german cars you've to hear german opinions

and BMW never mentioned to put a tweaked s85 in a f10, never...

I would prefer a Cadillac cts-v over the bmw IF I would live in the US.

I don't like turbo engines at all, less sound and because of the inferior response characteristic

If Cadillac only counted in the US, then autocar, EVO, 5th Gear, TopGear wouldn't test it, even including a drag race...

I never said that they considered a tweaked S85, although, we don't know, they could have considered various powerplants when testing mules...
What I meant was that if they wanted to, they could have just dropped in the 580 hp, if they wanted outright power...

The higher ups at BMW have to take in account all competitors, because the cub that purrs now, is the Lion that roars later...

Yes. It was black and I heard him pull out of the lot. I don't know if he had work done to it but it sounded like a beast.

it looks OK, but like most American cars it will look dated after 1 year.

My cousin has a 2002 3 series coupe and to me that car still look fresh. I have a 2005 530i, no American car from that time period still stands the test of time in terms of looks.

meh

Only car I'd consider buying if I ever bought American again is a Vette.

Well you can get an E60 M5 for 36k, or a 2007 Maserati Quattroporte for 29k.
