he doesnt get enough credit, got the 8 mr O way before Ronnie. discuss
-
goal physique right there. great inspiration for natural bodybuilders like myself
-
He could claim natural today and enter team
Universe because he doesnt use insulin. Guys like meso adraina and patnelli could easily win 10 mr os if they started using those evil drugs
-
Does Lee even work out? He looks like shit compared to Banana.
-
See my various Lee Haney threads...Dude is greatest all time.
-
Lee Haney was the last real mr O....

Lee Haney was the last real mr O....
I'd give that title to Zane, but Lee was a great bodybuilder.
-
Awesome shot.I never saw that pic before.
Back in the day,I never liked Lees build, but after years of big gutted oilbags,I`m a die hard Haney fan for life!!
-

What about Samir in 83? Even though it was a once in a lifetime thing, that showing is till one of the best ever at a Mr 'O.

Does he have bigger arms than Dan Hill?

seconded.
BB should have stopped after Zane.
Actually with Arnold it peaked, just went downhill from that, but Zane's aestehtiques are unmatched.

Cue Groink calling Zane a twink, post pics of himself and induce a 40 pages+ thread.

lol What for?
Wouldn't even turn pro nowadays with that physique. He dominated probably the weakest era in BB, that's about it.

You're a complete retard if you say nowadays is the weakest era. People always tend to put down the current state and glorify past times ("U know, back in the days...." ::)), eventough it's completely ridicolous.
Nowadays is probably one of the most competitive era ever, comparable to the 90s.
-
Looks great - even arms look good there.
Had a height advantage.
-
I remember when he was the reigning Mr Olympia. He blew everyone away in the lineup.

No, it's not. The problem is that you can't compare the last ten years with the 80s. The '90s were redifining for Bbing and while you can still compare the '90s to the 80s to some extent, it has entered a new era with Yates specially and the trend has been going on. But apart from sheer size, nothing today is close to the '90s. Conditioning, proportions, symmetry, aesthetics, and so on......

Almost every guys of the 90s are off compared to guys now, except Yates, Shawn Ray or Munzer.

Who except Heath comes in conditioned today? Jay? In the past ten years, only Dexter was consistent with his conditioning. Flex '93 was conditioned (maybe not at the '0 as much as at the AC and Ironman but still), Ronnie '98 was also good.

The only reason the guys from the 90 were more shredded is cause the quality of the pics and videos from that area is worse lol ::)

I agree with you, Flex was only conditioned one time in his life.
For the rest, Levrone could not be big and shredded at the same time, Nasser's back was a swimming pool,
Dillet was smooth every were, Labrada had a shitty skin and watery back, Cormier was even more off than Wheeler during all his career and I don't even talk about the rest of the guys (Matarazzo lol, Aaron Baker etc...)
Of course, today bbers are more shredded and even bigger. The only good thing with the 90's is there were more unique guys like Flex, Levrone or Ray for example, but the overall level is worse than today's.

Yes it was!

As you said, they were at least three competitors that were very consistent condition wise in the 9ās (Yates, Ray and Munzer). I can't name three competitors as consistent in that department int he last ten years. And if we're talking about structure (cue the Heath comments): look at the top 6 from any 'O from 91 to 97 maybe even 99 (Cormier's best showing maybe and much better than any current pro IMO). They're all better than today's pro. Dillett may have fucked up his conditioning regularly but his structure was very good, so was Fux's, Levrone's, Nasser's, Yates'....Today, apart from Freeman and Wolf, who do you have?
-
if you are a fan of weight, then today is probably the most competitive era.
but if you are a fan of what most consider bodybuilding, then you just have to look at the quality of people who never won an Olympia and draw your conclusions:
Ray, Flex and Levrone are arguably the best to have never won it.

As I said there were more legend during the 90s but it's not today's bodybuilders fault, it's just a coincidence.
By the way you also have a lot of legends during the past 10 years, like Coleman, Dexter, Phil Heath, Cutler who is more competitive than Flex and Levrone even if it's hard to admit it.

Too much oil,shitty proportions,no calves,shit posing,big guts..................

If you talk about average pro shows I totally agree with you, shits like Henz Senior or Jari Mentula didn't exist 15 years ago. But if you only talk about the Olympia, the overall level is better today as guys are bigger and leaner.

Was Coleman ever better than in '98 (maybe the 01 AC)? To me, the fact that people are in awe of his '03 O showing is a proof of how much people no longer give a sit about certain basics. Dexter, I'll agree once again. Jay was consistent for a while from 2001 to 2004 then the waistline exploded and he just had one great showing at the 'O in 2009. Half of his sandows are as good as Columbu's and he won his first one against a way downhill Coleman (Vince Taylor placed 11th or something at 50 years old-I wouldn't really count it as competitive).

Bigger is not better......better is better!!
It`s all subjective bro.

Vince Taylor has tons of overall pro wins!!
He wasn`t always 50 years old! ;D

I used Coleman as example because he won most of his titles during the last 10 years. For the rest, you had an elite during the 90s but this elite was not as dedicated as today's guys (Wheeler, Cormier, Dillet etc...). Now you have a little bit less amazing guys but you also have more great guys than the 90s. Aside from the top 6, you didn't really have interesting guys. Now you have a lot of good guys like Beyeke, Rockel, Centopani, Freeman, Alves, Mc Millian, Shawn Roden, etc...

Nowadays is probably one of the most competitive era ever, comparable to the 90s.
its not a nostalgia thing, the late 80s and early 90s was the most competitive era with quality size, strong line ups of individual bber of a high caliber that had distinct looks to their physiques
What's retarded is anyone that has the view that bbing has reached a new level..
What exactly makes this era better besides the new found ability to hold more size, and have striations and a gut?
-

its clinging,,,and the only thing keeps it going is the expo's and supplement companies both whom sponsor show's now.

Good post per usual!
thanks,
I'm not trying to put down, nor do I hate current bbers
I'm amazed at kai greene's leg size, the freaky back, and the size of his arms, but do I want to look like him? No. Do I get the illusion that I could possibly ever look like him? No.
At least with zane we had the delusion that was attainable, it was real, same with samir, benfatto, and with guys like haney, then yates, it was a new level, but still appeared human
Am I freaked out by heaths arms? Yes, but I know they're pumped full of seo, and also know that if he doesn't follow a complex regime of aas, gh, seo, slin, that size will be gone in a few months
Haney wouldve also become much smaller off, but he wouldn't have shrunk
Wait till vic leaves his current habitat, and when we see his first pics back outside, the we'll have a good example of current generation bbing sans assistance
-
Yet another good post Figo...........my sentiments exactly to tee.

Pathetic arms on Lee ::)
Remember, no SEO, no synthol..All real...not this balonie BS today.
At 5'11.5 and 245 and long limbs, stage ready I'm guessing they probably 20 inches. Nothing mindblowing but to your average person totLee awesome and they had great shape.
-
Nice shot Wiggs...arms look huge there!

there was thread where his arm size was discussed, I think gh15 said 19 or 19.5, whatever it was, that torso dwarfed his limbs, massive chest and back
And he had a now almost extinct v taper
