I have a switch that runs an outlet (we will call it switch A).....I am trying to add a new light fixture and have a new switch (Call it switch B) run off this power source. Can I do this by jumping wires from Switch A? I assumed I could get the power from switch A but it is not working. I am thinking I may have to run the wire from the new light to the outlet first, and then to switch B?
???

Sounds about right. ;D
-
Hot, neutral, ground. If you are unsure of what that means back away from the wires slowly. ;D

I was looking for a site that would have the info I was looking for but can't seem to find one that explains the scenario I have. If I ask the question on one of those forums I might get the answer in a month from now...I was hoping to get this shit resolved today. :-\

Thanks Che, but that is not the same situation that I have. I was looking on I think the same site you got that diagram from, but they don't seem to have a diagram for my situation. :(

true and they probably would try to charge you. maybe go to home depot and ask an expert and he or she can walk you through it.

Work with live wires. Nothing says 'alpha' more than working hot.
-
If nasser posted here he would know
-
If you ran it to the A switch it would have to be on for the B switch to work, you need to run the new light fixture to the B switch and from the B switch splice into the wires that give the A switch power, not the A switch itself otherwise the B switch wont work unless the A switch is on.

Maybe I should PM GH15?

Worth a try
Worst case scenario you'll know how much gh to be on to do this electrical job

Yeah that's what have tried...a bunch of different ways...but it isn't working. I even tried wiring it so that switch A should turn on both the new light and the receptacle outlet, but what happens is when I turn the switch on, the receptacle gets power, and when I turn the switch off, the new light turns on lol.

That switch is a double throw switch,...they are used at the top and bottom of stairs usually so you can turn the light on or off from the top or the bottom of stairs.

It is easier to draw a picture/schematic...
The first one is what you have now...
The second is what you want to end up with.

Indeed it is...the wiring for most motor vehicles only deal with DC voltages and not signal streams...corrosion is what you mostly have to worry about...
Let me amend that statement, since it is electronic fuel injection...the signal streams are low enough in frequency that few problems of lead dress are present...usually the gauges get their display information from DC voltage levels and so therefore corrosion is what you have to control.

You probably should have opted for the battery powered butt plug instead. Could have saved you the hassle.

Well I think I got it figured out. THe original configuration of what I had was power source going to the receptacle and then to the switch. The thing that confused me, and actually still is confusing me is when I took the coverplate off the receptacle to investigate I was expecting to see 1 set of wires going in for the power and then another set going to the switch. But there are actually 3 sets of wires that come into the receptacle box. I know one is the main power, and the other goes to the switch...not sure what the 3rd is for.
So in the receptacle box, all the black wires were connected together, and the white wires were connected to the outlet. So I ran another wire down from the new switch and spliced the black wire to all the other black wires, and spliced the white wire to the white that I figured was with the power source. Everything seemed to work during the dry run...but after connecting everything and pushing the wires back something must have got disconnected because now my original switch is not powering the outlet but my new switch is working the new light fixture lol.
Is it ok to have 4 sets of wires coming into one box? Seems kinda cramped to me.
