Title: Protein intake vs. Protein Synthesis Stimulation
Post by: No Patience on January 18, 2012, 07:34:41 AM
There is constantly arguments over how much protein is needed. I am science based, and it seems that
more recent research is suggesting that diet induced protein synthesis is stimulated by reaching the
leucine threshold of 2.5+ grams.

I am wondering now if someone taking in 100 grams daily protein intake could get full benefits of protein
synthesis if they supplimented each meal with BCAA's. A lot of people eat meals containing 30 grams of protein
from sources other than whey(chicken, fish, etc) which does not reach the 2.5g leucine which becomes an
anticatabolic state rather than anabolic(unless right after a workout).

I am thinking that someone could eat less protein but get the same synthesis rate by increasing leucine
through BCAA's.

I realize that protein intake has other benefits even when oxidized, but as far as muscle stimulation and growth
it seems to be more about the protein efficiency through leucine than the total number of grams.

why would you want to talk about this bullshit?!

wouldn't you rather talk about Islam or Ron Paul or the Blacks instead?

You've been awfully quiet about tanning salons lately.

Ill say this- the newer crop of chicks who work at these places are getting fatter and more annoying.

i do not use anabolics, so the small stuff does matter...if i were injecting, i would be
in a state of synthesis whether eating or not

i am natural so food induced synthesis is absolutely necessary

i agree with you though on the mental aspect, relaxing can have a great benefit

That's a general trend even outside tanning salons. What do you expect?

OK,I was goofing around and I realize every edge that you can get will help, but buying expensive BCAA`s is just another way supp companies take your fucking coin.

That is a bit of minutia IMO.......just make sure you are eating complete proteins, and enough of them at every sitting, and if you are worried about not squeezing in enough leucine, just eat foods that are rich in leucine.

Don`t make it rocket science bro,if you dot all your I`s and cross all your T`s,then you are doing all you can dietwise.

Protein synthesis induced by food consumption is highly overrated and is not relevant for muscle growth.

If you are truly interested in the 'science' aspect of it, you should read brad pilon's book on protein. It shows, through a review of many different researches and studies, the amount of protein needed for muscle growth and more importantly he explains how protein synthesis is not and has never been proven to lead to long term muscle growth. As he explains, this protein synthesis crap is just a surrogate endpoint that is assumed to lead to growth and is used by supplement marketers and others pushing things like bcaas.

If you really want to worry about protein synthesis, then focus on the training induced synthesis or just start up hormones.
