I found this link in the crossfit thread, via a stupid kipping pull-up video. It's a guy who claims to hold the world record in weighted pull ups.
I was shocked at how low the record is. Can any of you guys beat it?
"The heaviest weighted pull up weighed 206.2 lb (93.53 kg) and was achieved by Steven Proto (USA) at a personal gym in Edmond, Oklahoma, USA, on 9 July 2011." -GWR
Or the record for bodyweight + added weight is 400 pounds or so. So a guy who weighs 400 pounds doing 1 pull up would be a world record holder?
-
In the 65-69 age group, the record is only 125lbs? And you don't even need to do a full rep
-
great lats development ::) ::) ::)
-
there is no way that is the world record

Something you can always count on are guy's looking for their 15 minutes of fame in lifting. Delusional and void of any sense of reality, in most cases. More so in the mad doctors case, it looks like. Given his aged, his half pullup is respectful, but not a world record. Neither is the younger, tall gentlemen, within the range of a world record. Some very powerful men approach the 300lb range, in regular training, for sets of reps. Plus including their usual heavy bwt, most impressive. And they don't have to send video clips out on the net to prove themselves. Been told the record is a bit over 300, though not really sure of this.
Which kind of reminds me of the tools who are doing a 1/8 to 1/4 rep in the bench ,with 400, and think that this is some ultimate feat of strength.

Well Jan Łuka did one rep with 100.7kg and three reps with 83.5kg (his bodyweight attached to the belt). It was never recognised by Guiness comitee for some reason.

Deciever,I use to know a guy in Hartford Ct. back in the day who would do weighted chins with huge poundages...he weighed 165 or so.
would do two finger chins with heavy weight, and one finger pulldowns and stuff like that.
I honestly can`t remember the poundages he used but they were impressive.
One time he shook my hand fucking around and his grip was so strong I went to my knees!!
He once told me that in his gym, they had strength contests and he got up to a 500 pound plate loaded leg extension......said he felt he could have done more but the weight made him feel as if his shins were actually bending.........his words, not mine.
Great thread.........weighted chins are fucking impressive when this kind of weight is in the mix.
That guy looks great too......my buddy looked like a skinny bookworm type.

Finnish strongman doing 200 kg in total (~440 lbs).
-
interesting how the record is 400 total. i think alot of decent lifters could do that but no one does above a 400 total
at 305 i can rep one time with a 100 pounds on me thats it, im not even in good conditioning.
the body doesnt get stronger as you age to any big margin atleast
-
Im not good at chins and at 240 can 15 or more out so I should be able to at least pull with a 100 added to me and I am in no way near the cream of the crop strenght wise there has to be some bastard some where that can do it with 300+

Those weren't even what I'd call decent "lat shrugs" (an effective exercise, btw).
