It threw me off, too.  I don't know the suspect, but given that this guy was 47 years old and had no record whatsoever, I'm thinking the alleged psychological abuse may have been real.  Obviously, people are going to be angry and/or hurt when they lose their job, but there had to be something else going on which caused him to act with such finality.

My 'conservative' friends swear that the 'justice system' isn't discriminatory.  At all.
