Good luck bro nothing really funny about it. Don't be afraid to take a job that pays a bit lower than your use to. There's a lot of jobs around you just have to look in the right places. You might have to bust your ass extra hard for awhile and work two shitty jobs or something. Best of luck.

Sorry to hear, this same crap happened to me before also.  I worked at AT&T at the time.  Funny thing was they shut down several divisions of the company and that same year the CEO got like 9 million in bonus.  Seems to be a pattern almost everywhere in the USA these days.

My current company let go of LOTS of people, gave no raises, and outsourced to India for more than half of the IT staff.  BUT... all the executives got huge bonuses.  In fact the CEO retired with like a 30+ million package.   :-\

But keep your chin up.  If your not too prideful you can and will find something.  Maybe just get some unemployment right away while you look for a bit.  Hope the best for ya!

Like most of these lazy americans you probably deserved to get laid off...hell, you probably deserved to be beheaded. Now you will shamelessly collect your weekly welfare check and alternate between masturbating and eating peanut butter from the jar. That's when you're not sleeping at 2 in the afternoon. It won't be long before China colonizes you lazy sons of bitches.

I work loosely in IT so i see this all the damn time
for most major corporations, IT is usually the largest casualty. The new model is either ship the low paying IT jobs to India or lay off your fulltime IT staff and then replace them with consultants...

its a fucking shame

people have to fend for themselves, people get fired every single day, you should always have backup cash, and even have a side business to make extra, dont rely on your current pay cheque, it can be gone any second.

its times like these you realise that the social welfare and health system you live with is shit.

cos if u dont get a job soon, you end up homeless and healthless...

elsewhere around the world that isnt the case...u get healthcare for free, and enough money to survive until you get a job- plus financial and social help to get a job.

Take 24-48 hours to lick your wounds and feel sorry for yourself.  Then start looking for another job.  I do not know what kind of work you do, but in my experience a personal contact, word of mouth, or networking is the best way to find a job.  You must start tapping your network to get the word out that you are looking for employment.  Ultimately, you want to have allies within a company or organization looking on your behalf and/or forwarding openings to you as they come up-–but before they are necessarily publicly advertised.

Obviously, you will need a polished résumé ready to go and a digital (pdf) version as well.  In fact, depending on your experience and the kinds of positions you are looking for you may need several different versions of your résumé.  In my organization, we do not accept paper résumés.  Everyone who applys for a job here does so online and a pdf or a pasted résumé is required.

I hope you have a nest egg.  And a positive mental attitude.

I've often heard the expression that when a door closes another one opens.

Most folks go through a period of anger and then depression when they are laid off or fired. Try to process these feelings as swiftly as you are able to and then be optimistic about finding that better job.

Incidentally, I have never been laid off. I was on my last job for almost 30 years until I retired. However, when I was young, I managed to get myself fired a few times. Looking back I probably deserved to be fired too. More importantly, each time I left a job (I also quit a couple of jobs) I ended up finding a better job. Now I have the best job ever, being retired with enough money on which to live a decent life.

Been there, sucks. But its time for you to open your mind. Use your time to seek a job, don't be afraid to get a job you've never done before or i na totally new field. Also when you need money don't be afraid either to do not so legal jobs. Remember its only illegal for the government, not for you. And what does it do for you? nothing. You owe them nothing in return.
Also use your spare time pay close attention to the market, what people want, etc perhaps you can be an entrepreneur.

Don't be slow to apply for unemployment...

This!

I git laid off about six years ago when I relocated to south florida. Was told to apply their. Got south and got screwed. It was almost like they didn't want to even give me unemployment to keep the rate down. Yet they got lazy fucks riding the damn thing with no intent to work at all.

All I needed it for was to hold me over to help my mortgage. damage had been done, foreclosure...etc. bastards

apply within 24 hrs of getting laid off.  it will take 2-3 weeks to process your claim.

Don't worry. Obama will give you an unemployment check for two years so you can chill with the rest of the slackers.  If he gets elected again it might get bumped to three years.

Seriously, I hope you find a job and that it's better than the one you had.

new job = filling job applications.

fill em... 20 a day, first make a perfectly polished job application and then just apply and change it here and there depending on the job you're applying to. Go online to search how to do it properly.

Don't lose your sleep and don't start watching blueray rips throughout the night and wake up at afternoon, but wake up early in the morning, coffee and then just send job applications all the way and if it's possible to call to the company you're tending the better, and allways call in the last day if they haven't called you.

when the time of dismissal is closing in and you haven't got a job from your field then start looking for simpler jobs, I mean, depending what you've been working.  And it's better to search jobs from your field while actually in work, so don't have the "I ain't working there" attitude if you're not getting money anywhere.

Keep your head up, worst thing for you to do now is to start feeling self pity and get depressed and lazy. Everything changes, this is time for a new beginning, you can do it.

Your new job is finding a new job basically. Like another poster suggested, get your resume and everything up to speed and start applying everywhere that fits your trade.

get hr contract numbers, call and ask questions about the position you applied for. It may be filled already. Don't waste time. Leave voice mails and follow up the same day. Drive there in person. Be aggressive.

You need to seperate yourself from the hundreds that have applied basically. Your goal is to create an impression on somebody. Be extra nice especially receptionist.

I hit it hard when I got laid off. Woke up, got dressed as if I was going to get a call for an interview, I followed up on calls from the previous day, drive to job sites just to put a face to name...etc.

Go get it man.

The waking up in the morning part is CRUCIAL. Your whole being, self confidence and productivity depends on it. Start waking up after noon more than a couple of times in a row and you're already halfway to becoming a pathetic slob.

Get the unemployment.  Stay happy.  try to keep a similar schedule (getting up at same time, getting dressed, staying active 9-5 with your work shoes on instead of your pajamas.  Talk to old friends on facebook.  invent a job for yourseelf.  "Oh, you sell widgets?  Heck, you should pay me 20% of all the widgets I can sell for you..."

I've spent unemployed months in a funk, staying up til 4 am and feeling like a bum.  It got better when i started pretending I had a job, and spent all day 'at work' even though I didn't have a job.  Starting businesses, applying places, talking to people, just being seen.

Sucks to be laid off. Not knowing where your next income will be.  But also look at it as a new oppurtunity for the future.

Learn something new every day.  Get things done you couldnt before.   Definately start looking via the internet and anywhere else for job openings.  Talk to friends who might know.  Look at various competitors and other companies who are similar.  Enjoy a week of gettings things done.

You never know when you can get a job.    An email to friends, an email to different people in the industry.  Put down your skills on what you can do. Etc.

Sorry, it definately is a tough time now.

This is so true.  I was laid off about 9 years ago and I took a day to let the shock sink in, but then I got up the same time I normally did for work and spent as much or more time in the job hunt.  Had a new (better) job in a month.  It isn't an easy process, but I threw myself into the search and made that my job...days went by and I felt accomplished.  Certainly some days were better than others, but when the calls and emails for interviews started coming in it felt worthwhile.

Not sure where you worked, what industry or what you did.  But shame on you for not networking and not having a contigency plan in place.  People who think they are indispensible are assholes.  Everyone is dispensible.  I work with the mentality that I can be laid off any given day.  I am prepped for it and don't care if it happens.  That's because I wasn't too arrogant to think my company can't live without me.  They can live without anyone.  No one is indispensible. No one.

That's what my backup plan is. I know my employer hates me and is waiting to give me the boot. If and when I do get canned I already have little side projects and small income streams. I've been repairing smart phones in my spare time and I never knew how much cash it could bring in. I've got a few coworkers I train after work too.

I've seen kids sell iPhone and smart phone replacement parts that are legit millionaires now. Some kid on bodybuilding.com is doing this and a friend I have in real life is also cashing in. He sold me a bunch of iPhone 4 replacement screens and I've been doing that in my spare time and it's killer income.

Takes maybe 20 minutes to pop off the old one and put the new one in. People pay $100 or more plus the cost of the screen. And there is an endless supply of boneheaded dickbags who drop their iPhones all the time. I wish I got into this before it got big because my friend does this for a living and is paying his way and his wife's way through school.

Just got to find a couple small niches and work with them. If it bombs, whatever... just a bit of your time and maybe a bit of cash. But when you find something that works, you're your own boss with no cock sucker to answer to. My wife will be done school too and will make almost twice as much as I'm making now, so I'll probably start a business and never have to answer to some limp dick again.

There is no recovery in the economy despite what the Kenyan-in-Chief says.

The only hope for those laid off is self employment and 12 plus hours a day trying to get business.

Don't worry. Obama will give you an unemployment check for two years so you can chill with the rest of the slackers.  If he gets elected again it might get bumped to three years.

Seriously, I hope you find a job and that it's better than the one you had.

Right, because it is almost cheaper to buy fast food than it is to buy food at the store and cook it at home. Also, if your living in your car and don't have a way to cook food, it's a semi-hot meal.

Are you fucking kidding?

There are less people working today than when thugbama took office, despite the fact that millions have not only lost employment, but millions have entered working age with no employment at all.

Only a delusional leftist socialist communist would think things are improving in any meaningful way.

When Obama took office they were  450( out of 1200) guys sitting on the bench at the local  Ironworker Union hall  now they are   only 125, how do you explain that  ?

When will people wake up and demand freedom with which ever method it takes. Goverments have to know that they can not get in people lives; tell what to do, how, when, attack you with taxes, laws and bureaucracy, bleed us out with total impunity. Make those pigs in leather seats suffers, make every second of their political career a terrible agony. Fuck peaceful demonstrations, signature collecting and "contacting your local congressman" let blood flow.

The labor force in its aggregate is smaller than the day he took office despite the fact that MILLIONS of working age have entered the labor pool and cant find work.

Does that not compute with you?

i think college has really fucked some people up

look in yourself and figure out what you're naturally good at

no one i went to college with needed to go to college. my friend who studied finance is a chef, another friend was a salesman in a small company and as it grew he became somewhat wealthy, i was a hustler and i learned the game on the job, i'm now a salesman at a small coffee company part time, but in my month working there I opened up twice as many accounts as the owner of the company did in his first 6 months in operation

i always figured i should do something with math in it, or something physical because im strong, or something to do with beer because i love it and know a lot about it

now adays i'm a salesman and im excelling at that job, who woulda thunk it

you never know wtf you will be good at, try different things. i never thought id be a good salesman but it turns out i am, would have never known if i didnt randomly meet a friend of a friend for coffee who happened to be a coffee importer

For every employer that may hire some due to govt stim bills, tax credits or subsidies, there are more going out of business to this this govts crazy policies.

Its like taking water out of one end of the pool, dumping it into the other end, all while you have a massive hole in the bottom.

Eventually, nothing is left.

That's bad news man.  I have been there before. Good jobs are fucking scarce now unless you have 20 years experience with a degree.  I was just bitching today about my job which are rarely do.  I make good money but I am not happy.  I just have to learn to be thankful I have a job now.  Good luck to you in the future.

soo true. It baffles me how many bitch DAILY. I was struggling for a bit but just got a really great job with alot of growth opportunity. They offered me the job right before I left, great money, benefits, vacation time. Only thing I have to commute 45 min. each way but oh well. Sadly most don't think like you. They need to appreciate the job they have. Of course nobody likes their job 100 percent of the time, just appreciate what you have. So kudos to you.

I´M, happy to tell getbig that I myself have a bisexual girlfriend who loves threesomes. Not with 2 men-1 girl but the opposite. 2 girl-1 man. And my girl is hot as hell, big tits, small waiast, wide hips, quite tall and about 130 (62 kg) at 172 cm. Only thing I wish she had more is a bigger butt. What what the f.uck, she is horny as hell and takes it in every hole, loves anal even though I seldom fucks her there because her pussy is supper tight.... Last night she invited some other fine woman over that was more of the opposite look. Big butt, small tits, had quite abit of muscle of going on her... Myf GF have been talking about it alot laterly that she really would get turned on to see me f.uck another woman and make her enjoy it as much as she herself likes blow/swallow/fuck my c.ock... Ok i´m abit shy with a new girl but thought that I will kill myself if I miss out on this. So I did pop 10 mg of diazepam+50 mg viagra (the jelly fast working shit) before to loo losen up. Then I let them start to play with eachother and felt my combo start working. After they finished warming up I did my doggystyle while she liked the other one, then they switched places. After that one of them sat on my face while I liked her and the other one took a ride on my dick. My gf came first and she said the felt she needed abit of a rest. So she watched me do the new one laying over her, pimping the shit out of that one. Her pussy was not as tight as my gf so I did her anal too...them I ordererd them both on their knees while I let them share a HUGE load... Afterwards miss new had to go because I had to go and do arms at the gym...but I bet there will be a re-run of this----Wish I would´ve filmed it for jerkoff seasions but I forgot that...hopefully there will be a re-run" GOTTA LOVE THEM MUSCLE SLUTS

I am on the other side of this coin. I am thinking about firing one of my staff.

“Mike” is a loser who was there before I came on board so I inherited him.  He is easily the least productive person in my office.  The other day I heard and saw him clipping his toenails into a trash can in his office.  He often comes in late, leaves early, and is a total slacker.  I happen to know that he went through a divorce over the last year or two and had a long custody battle for his daughter.  My own boss has been very sympathetic and protective of him, which is the only reason I have not fired him thus far.  Eventually, my boss and I had a big falling out over his behavior.  I soon realized that if I was ever going to get rid of him, I first had to get rid of my own boss.  Believe it or not, I managed to do that!  So, now it’s time to deal with him.

Is there a good way to be fired?

Other units in my organization have gotten rid of people by "reorganizing" the office and certain positions are “eliminated.”  Truthfully, the position is simply retitled and filled with a new worker.  I think that’s the approach I am going to take here.

I think that’s the approach I am going to take here.

this isn't the way to address this issue. you gotta talk to him, and instead of approaching him like an unhappy boss, see things from his perspective. get him on your side. let him vent to you about his divorce, his anxieties, whatever. then try to get him to see your perspective. what would he think if one of his employees was clipping his toenails and leaving early and coming in late.

Bollox.  Someone either has a work ethic or they don't.

well, to be fair to him this is an office job. studies and statistics show that only about 3-4 hours of the day are productive and the rest of it are wasted so it's not as if he's unique, he's just not hiding it.

It appears you have misunderstood me. I don't need him on my side; I don't want him on my side.  I have zero respect for this loser and just want him gone.  I'm sorry for the problems in his personal life (I believe he has some health issues too), but everyone has personal problems.  That is not an excuse for poor performance at work.  He is toast!

You just hit jackpot. Go on unemployment insurance. Use your extra time to reinvent yourself. Start a gym or something.

Bay,

create a situation where the employee is presented with a chance to make an unethical choice, record evidence, and fire him for it.

Try not to make it scream setup, but let the chips fall where they may.

how can I say this, the satisfaction of flipping someone and getting them on your side is much greater than firing them, but beyond that there is a long term advantage. you gain loyalty from that employee and this gives you leverage and in general makes you a more effective manager

Telling people to pull their socks up just builds resentment.  They'll nod and smile and be worse than ever.  And befriending the resident fuckup sends the wrong message to the rest of the staff.

Besides, it's not like he's someone with unique knowledge or skills by the sound of it.  He's just some papershuffler.  You can replace half those idiots with a well built spreadsheet and voicemail.

I've been a member since 2005? Okay, I'd like to share something. I got laid off today. It still hasn't sunk in....not sure what to think. So give me your best shot, act like an asshole because it'll probably give me a nice laugh I hope.

I hate work, well working for the man, I would rather live under a bridge (for real) - better to beg borrow steal to get what you want.
The Pirates said it best

"In honest work, the food is bad, the wages are low and the work is hard. In piracy, there is plenty of loot, it's fun and easy and we are free and powerful. Who, when presented with this choice, would not choose piracy? The worst that can happen is you can be hanged. No, a merry life and a short one shall be my motto.")

"Yes, I do heartily repent. I repent I had not done more mischief; and that we did not cut the throats of them that took us, and I am extremely sorry that you aren't hanged as well as we." -Anonymous Pirate

So you have just admitted to being an employee not to be trusted by a supervisor?

That's shitty to hear.  Where do you live?  If you're in Western Canada, and have any type of industrial skill(s), you can find a job in the oilsands pretty easy.  If your a drug addict I wouldn't bother though.  They test regularly.

I think you are mistaken in this.  Donald Trump did not land a prime time series based on getting dumb employees on his side.  My foolish employee has had this coming for a long time and several people my office will thank me when I show him the door.

Exactly.  My own boss did that with this particular employee and that is how I ultimately got her fired!  ;D

I agree, all losers should be fired, i refuse to babysit losers in my business, i have a one strike policy.
I have seen many losers cry, i dont feel any regret.
