Title: Panetta Announces $500 Billion Defense Cuts
Post by: 240 is Back on January 26, 2012, 01:06:08 PM
33- do you like this round of cuts?  No jobs lost, nobody fired/retired.  Just cutting back a pretty small amounts - this is 500 bil in a DECADE.  So that's 50 bil per YEAR in cuts?

WaPo: WASHINGTON — Pentagon leaders outlined a plan Thursday for absorbing $487 billion in defense cuts over the coming decade by shrinking U.S. ground forces, slowing the purchase of a next-generation stealth fighter and retiring older planes and ships.

No, because its not being in connection with equal cuts across the board.

Not bad, but IMHO we need to cut from the Federal Government before we cut the military.
There is so much wasted money on worthless programs in the federal government its rediculous, and they only seem to want to make cuts from programs that people need/use, instead of their worthles side projects.
They do that for a reason though, they figure if they cut spending from the programs people need and use, that its like a punishment for making them cut spending and it may make us not want to demand spending cuts.
Just my humble opinion based on what Ive seen. Always seem like they have the attitude "you want us to cut back our budget? Fine, well cut back shit that benefits you, and well see how long you demand we cut back"  ::)

cutting from 'federal govt' means cutting american jobs.

it means you have 50,000 guys who do this on FOX news crying about how obama ruined their life.
Or, you have 50,000 guys on MSNBC crying about how Mitt took away their livelihood.

it is why, in 2008, neither obama nor mccain woudl talk about what federal programs (translated: jobs) they would cut.

Same in 2012.  No candidate, mitt or newt or obama, will say "i'mma cut these jobs".  They just won't.

Trust me, cutting defense budgets puts people out of work.
Maintenence of those planes.
Pilots.
Support.
All those military MOS' will disappear - which means reenlistments will be denied due to the losing of those positions.
Which means those people will be forced out of the military at the end of their enlistments weather they wanted to stay in or not.
Its just those people wont go bitching to the news that the spending cuts cost them their military career - theyll just go on with life and get normal jobs.
So yeah, it is the same.

And guess what?   If thugbama would have not ended oil exploration we would have had billions more in revenue to fund those guys.
