Thanks Guys!!!! I used to go to the Johnny Lats in Staten Island and that gym was rated the best on the east coast til they closed it down :(. Didnt know there was one on 17th street. I'll check out Golds and 24 hour fitness also since I live in Harlem....
-
I train at LA Fitness. I hate it, but it's the only game in town where I live. I can workout anywhere in the country except they charge more money to workout in NY state. WTF is that about?
-
Steel Gym alot of pros train there including Victor Martinez

I just joined Chelsea Piers, and the equipment there is amazing. Tons of weights, hammer strength I haven't seen in years, even on olympic platform. Check it out.
I still belong to Steel however in case I want a workout late at night.

NYC has great old school gyms. Like others stated
Steel Gym
19th Street
Cripes, go to Syosset if you have a car, without traffic ;D its only 20 min
-
Get on Metro North towards New Haven. Cost you about 20 bucks. get off in New Haven and come into Powerhouse Gym. Top 5 in the world for BBing.
-
That and Bev's are probably the best AROUND the city.
This is an old as fuck thread—STEEL closed, no more Gold's in the city.
Honestly, I go to Equinox and just accept sticking out like a sore thumb .
-
Gold's turned into Perscriptives I think and then maybe shut down. There used to be the 19th Street Gym which was awesome. I met Bev Francis there years ago and she was training quads. Insane.
If you get can to Jersey go to Strong and Shapely, see Bob.
Good Luck.

where on 17th...east or west? I'm on 17th often around 6th ave.
Tbh I'm about to renew my membership to the city and parks dept gym. They've got everything I need...decent db's and a squat rack.
