Title: Drones over U.S. get OK by Congress
Post by: Bindare_Dundat on February 08, 2012, 05:09:22 PM
washingtonpost

Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s … a drone, and it’s watching you. That’s what privacy advocates fear from a bill Congress passed this week to make it easier for the government to fly unmanned spy planes in U.S. airspace.

The FAA Reauthorization Act, which President Obama is expected to sign, also orders the Federal Aviation Administration to develop regulations for the testing and licensing of commercial drones by 2015.

Privacy advocates say the measure will lead to widespread use of drones for electronic surveillance by police agencies across the country and eventually by private companies as well.

“There are serious policy questions on the horizon about privacy and surveillance, by both government agencies and commercial entities,” said Steven Aftergood, who heads the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation also is “concerned about the implications for surveillance by government agencies,” said attorney Jennifer Lynch.

The provision in the legislation is the fruit of “a huge push by lawmakers and the defense sector to expand the use of drones” in American airspace, she added.

According to some estimates, the commercial drone market in the United States could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars once the FAA clears their use.

The agency projects that 30,000 drones could be in the nation’s skies by 2020.

Jesus fucking christ when will it end...
I know Im a bit of an alarmist, but does NO ONE else feel like the government is making a big push to try and become as completely omnicient?
I mean, everything they have passed in the last 4 months has been methods for them to take complete control or have total survielance.
This shit is getting outrageous, and no one gives a damn.
Hell a 28 year old man in my CNC class was going on and on about how the NDAA was so great and we needed it to protect us and how so many terrorists will get caught now.
I brought up the detaining of citizens and his response?
"The government wont do that to us, theyre just after terrorists, we need to give them powers like that to protect us"

I didnt even know what to say, I just shook my head in amazement.

It's not going to end, at least in our lifetime.  We've passed our peak and headed back into slavery and control.  Maybe in 5-6 generations will things start to turn around.  People are too complacent and dependent on government to stand up against it.

Agreed.  I talk to a lot of people.   Most are content to be slaves.

Citizens too caught up blaming one another for comparably petty bullshit to realize they've been divided and conquered.

Thanks, guys.

I'm a 1000 times more worried about our psycho government than worried about stupid muslim extremists.  The fucking flu kills more people in America in a year than those fools could pull off in 50 years.  The government manages on making us all pretty miserable.  Since Sept 11, the government continues to shove the most psychotic crap on the people.  Seriously, this is a much bigger concern to freedom loving Americans than some muslim douche with a plan.

Hope you like indefinate detainment, the FBI just put out a watchlist for "anti-big government extremists" against regulations and taxes, they are highly dangerous to America, hell they caused like 18 deaths in 2011, up from 10 in 2009!!!!!1 ( ::) ::) ::) How many people do car accidents kill every day? How the fuck do they define "anti government extremist"? How do they determine people who killed did so because they were "anti government"?)

Yup, they have definatley drawn a line in the sand with them on one side and us on the other, but the citizens still believe that its actually Democrats (citiznes and politicians) vs Republicans (citizens vs politicians).
Reality its Politicians (Republicans AND Democrats) vs Citizens (everyone else)

Someone should post the new FBI list. Its pretty crazy. Average day to day activities are now considered suspect to possible terrorist activity.

I can practically hear it now -

"But, but, but, the government told me that the NDAA would only be used against dangerous citizens!!!??
Wait!? IM a dangerous terrorist because I believe that the government has become to large and is taking liberties from the citizens!? But I havent done anything wrong! I work 9-5 and pay my outrageous taxes every year!! I didnt do anything wrong!!!!"

FBI warns of threat from anti-government extremists.

The extremists may refuse to pay taxes, defy government environmental regulations and believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard. From a report titled "Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the United States, 1970 to 2008":

http://start.umd.edu/start/publications/research_briefs/LaFree_Bersani_HotSpotsOfUSTerrorism.pdf

Extreme Right-Wing: groups that subscribe to aspects of the following ideals: they are fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation), anti-global, suspicious of centralized federal authority, reverent of individual liberty (especially their right to own guns, be free of taxes), believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty and a belief that one’s personal and/or national “way of life” is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent (sometimes such beliefs are amorphous and vague, but for some the threat is from a specific ethnic, racial, or religious group), and a belief in the need to be prepared for an attack either by participating in paramilitary preparations and training or survivalism. (2011: 26)

Still think theyll let Paul be president?

I agree with this.  The actual threat IN the USA seems to be over blown considering the ease upon which terrorists attacks can be  perputrated on things like airliners and yet there hasnt been a single legit atttack since 911.  Combine that with that scum bucket sell out OB signing the NDAA and other things and it seems our government is slowly taking our freedoms aways.

However I am pretty close to this particular issue with air space for UAV testing.  There is a big movement in the air force for UAV's and the industries that develop and test these things need air space to test them.  UAV development will lead to commercial applications in the future.

What we need to worry about is not so much how they spy on us.  They can do that with satellites, ease dropping on cell calls and manned planes now.  We need to worry about the fact they are spying.

if you have nothing to hide, why are you worried?  lol that used to be the argument people used.

it's onlyh a stroke of the pen to change "looking out for terr'ists" into "breaking up evildoers milliong around protesting the stolen 2012 election".

I hope that everyone who supports this huge govt over-reach because they agree with the party in power, knows that the NEXT guy from the opposite party will have these same powers.

Why is someone who couldn't be bothered to drag his fat ass out of his trailer long enough to do what was required to vote for Ron Paul lecturing others on election outcomes?

so if others wanna criticize me, okay, but you sohuld really STFU on the issue.  Then your ass pretended you never heard of romneycare, even tho it was the top issue romney was attacked for...

so keep it real.  i admit i suck because i didn't change party affiliation (shudder) to vote for a guy who removed himself from FL race.  You can't hate on me.  others can, not you.

:).  I can only imagine the amount of lists I am on.

To an entity that would maintain such a list, you are an ideal citizen.  You are hypnotized by the modern 'left' 'right' lie.  You spend every bit of your energy locked into the idea that other common citizens are the enemy, and that a particular 'side' is to blame for all bad things.

If we could take this frantic anger that's found in you and millions of others like you, and direct it at the lawmakers who cater to these fascist interests...

What is someone voted obama and said to you 'at least i voted'?  lol.

Ron paul removed himsef from the FL race, and I am a registered ind.   Should I have sent in paperwork, changed, drove to vote for a guy not in the race, then did the paperwork to change it back?  really?
