God help us. The man is a fucking angry nut and the crowd is made up of mostly old, senile and afraid people. I hope I never get that way.
-
Meh. I think everyone should go to college, but I don't think everyone needs to go. Big deal. He was likely speaking to a blue collar audience, many of whom are not college educated.
And I don't see how you can pass judgment on on people sitting in the audience based on a 1 minute clip. ::)
-
can only go by their actions,so obama is a snob for wanting people to go to college,is that how you think
-

he is pandering to the stupid here. i hope nobody denies that.

I can think of one person who is still on the fence.

Sure I can.
They are at a) a Santorum gathering and b) they are applauding his anger laced remarks. Thats enough for me.

A gross oversimplification. People who think too highly of themselves are often quick to call other people stupid. Not saying that's you, but that's been my experience. It's pretty ironic.
I could not look at a one minute clip of people applauding portions of a speech and determine they're stupid.
-
I love the mentality of the ppl that cheer this.
"Maybe I don't WANT my president being some highly educated elite snob. Maybe I"m just more comfy with him being a regular guy - Just like me! I feel like I could really lead this nation. So I like candidates that make a lot of silly mistakes on simpe foreign policy issues."

Its not snobbery, but it is by far one of the dumbest things obama is pushing. Pure bullshit and economic incompetence by the isalamist in chief.

no sane person thinks everyone is going to go to college
-
Guess he's forgetting about colleges like Oral Roberts, Liberty University, or the college I used to live 1 block down from, Bob Jones University or the college I once went to...Mars Hill College
There's thousands of different places to go to college, you don't have to go to Warren Wilson College (the most liberal place I visited)

Yeah, I think everybody should go too, but I've been giving a lot of thought to RP's stance that taxpayers maybe shouldn't be footing the bill for a lot of it.

We should not want everyone to go to college. Why waste the resources, time, debt, with millions of more people grossly in debt with wortheless degrees in minority studies who woul dbe better off in a BOCES type situation learning real skills and trades?
All this will do is drive the cost of college through the roof, water down what it means to have a college degree, waste 4 years of the life of people who will acquire no employable skills and have debt, not to mention a loss of working years in something productive, etc?
This whole issue is beyond madness and pure economic illiteracy at its very worst.
If the disgusting, parasitic, worthless, grotesque, public school system did the job it used to before education was hijacked by the communist left and public sector unions, we would not even have this discussion.
-
I agree with him.
If we stopped forcing stupid and unmotivated people from going to college, those who actually should be in college would receive a higher quality education, teaching standards would be higher, and there would be less debt among our young people. The unmotivated could go into vocational occupations or civil service jobs and the stupid could flip burgers or work for Vince Goodrum.
Obama wants everyone in college so more kids can be indoctrinated and brainwashed, the federal government gets more money through student loan debt and more taxpayer money can be diverted to useless schools for brain dead urban youths in the name of "fairness".
-
Christie explained why he might agree more with President Obama than Santorum on this issue.
“We need to have an education system in New Jersey and all over the country that makes all of our kids, college or career-ready. It should be their choice. And not every kid wants to go to college, but I think we should aspire to let every child reach his maximum or her maximum potential. And if Senator Santorum’s against that, then I don’t think that makes any sense. And I certainly don’t think the president’s a snob for saying that. I think that’s probably over the line.”

Good argument. Too bad the people rushing to Obama's defense here are the burger flippers with "dreams".

By now, everyone here should know that I hate Rick Santorum. But I gotta say that he's right on this one.
A college education is something my parents had to get in socialist Poland if they ever wanted to get anywhere in life. That's simply because not having a college education meant working on the docks, in the factories, or underground in the coal mines. There weren't any real opportunities. That is how all stagnant societies are: they are bureaucratized and thus require artificial and token certificates and licenses in order to advance and climb the socioeconomic ladder.
America used to be different. America used to be the land of opportunity. You didn't have to have a college education or even any formal schooling. You had the opportunity to network, to start on the bottom rung of society, save your money, and work up the ladder. Your children had the same opportunity, so over time your family had the possibility of traveling from the very bottom to the very top. Case in point: people like John D. Rockefeller and (later) Arthur Jones. This still exists in some corners of America, as evidenced by successful college drop-outs like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, but this is rapidly fading.
But America has lost that vitality, youthfulness, and opportunity. Overregulation, overtaxation, and overspending has thrown our economy back to the feudal ages, when you needed a permit from the government to run any business, you needed a government license to get any good-paying job, and all of the fruits of your labor were automatically assumed to be owned by someone other than yourself. Along with a decaying, expanding government in its death-throes, our culture has decayed. Now everyone must go to college to get a degree, even if that degree is a piece-of-shit English degree that won't serve you later in life. Barely anyone will hire you to do any worthwhile job if you don't have some degree, even if it is not related to the work to be done.
If we peeled back the government controls and restrictions, if we peeled back the welfare state, then everyone would not have to go to college. We'd return to a true opportunity society where one rises based on their merits, not on some artificial bureaucratic processes involving government licenses and permits.
Of course, the problem with Rick Santorum's remarks is that he does not plan on making any meaningful changes that would return America to a true opportunity society, and not a modern bureaucratized feudalism.
And two more things that I don't know how to fit into this post:
1. College schooling (not education) is a bubble driven by artificially low interest rates and government subsidies and restrictions. It'll collapse soon.
2. The Founding Fathers and most great intellectuals throughout history were self-educated. They did not need formal bureaucratic processes and government licenses to make the great breakthroughs that they made.

do you actually believe this ?
you think we force people to go to college?
-
Every single American should go to college and every single American should own a home, and the US government should pay for all of it. ;D
In Venezuela, college is paid for by the government. Most Venezuelans do go to college and get a degree. That is why we have so many medical doctors, lawyers and teachers driving taxi cabs, bagging groceries and selling hotdogs on the streets.

Obama wants everyone in massive debt w worthless women's studies degrees.
-
If if you listened to what he said. He stated that everyone should commit themselves to at least 1 year of college or vocational school or become an apprentice under someone.

Are you seriously asking me this dumbass question?
Do you live in the United States?
The importance of college is so overblown and propagandized in this country its insane. Now there are online colleges, part time colleges, colleges for full time employed adults that never finished high school, and on and on and on. Meanwhile, nobody is learning jack shit, most graduates can't find work in their chosen field of study, or any work period-- yet this cheap, community organizing piece of human excrement is trying to push the importance of attending college. Wait until the college loan bubble bursts.
And if you attended college ( any major college with a large student body population) it is clear as day that tons of fuckups are showing up to take up space, drain the schools resources, occupy the cafeteria and force professors to dumb down the material. In sum, college has become high school.
