Title: Coach RE: Kongo
Post by: The_Hammer on February 25, 2012, 10:11:06 PM
Why did he stand with a K-1 Champion?

He beat Cro Cop and Barry, but they were no champions.

Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem are the best heavyweight strikers in MMA.  I think these MMA fans are going to get a reality check when Alistair exposes Junior's striking.

I like Coach-- but Kongo is a fagg.

Mark Hunt is a fat slob with tons of power.

Kongo speaks french and wears glasses.

The fight was lost during weigh ins.

Kongo is built like badass and The Coach has done a great job training him too.

What else was Kongo going to do? Does he have a ground game??
Kongo had no chance of winning this fight. The addition of Hunt to the Heavyweights is welcome and should make things interesting.

This guy just had a getbig tribute thread, coach said he takes care of his money, but he just screwed off $2M bucks, because he didn't want to ride a stationery bike  ???

I think Rampage would wipe the floor with a guy like Kongo.  Weight difference doesn't matter.

Rampage is one of my favorites but I think he should retire. When was the last time he had an impressive showing? That's right it was the Wanderlei fight 3.5 years ago. None of his late fights have been that entertaining either. He has accomplished so much there really isn't anything to gain anymore.

I think it is due to bad match ups.  He does terrible against wrestlers or anyone that can avoid his strikes and get him to the ground.  Remember he beat a guy like Machida not too long ago (questionable decision no doubt)  He will never get the title again thats for sure.

Yeah. That's pretty much it. One thing which will always hurt Rampage is his unwillingless to play the game. It's mixed martial arts not boxing. Everybody knows what Rampage wants to do so they try to fight around it. Ryan Bader did the necessary thing.

Exactly... He was actually very nimble in this fight for being overweight.  He looked faster then he did in his last few fights for sure.  I was gonna say that the Rampage slam looked staged (Bader happens to lift his leg at the perfect angle) but I don't think Bader would have willingly almost become paralyzed.

How does an overweight person achieve such great stamina - isn't the extra weight counterproductive?
I mean the tattoo man with the white hair.

You don't really need stamina when you knock someone out in the first round.  Plus, that guy is Samoan.  Have you ever seen a skinny Samoan?

not really  the fat guy is fully loaded on food the lean guy is deprived and more lazy doesnt eat as much

when i trained the most all i wanted to do was eat i gained fat and muscle

when i diet i lost fat and muscle

the black guy was probably hungry for a meal but was so desiring to stay lean and asthetic he missed out on performance from over eating

yes being fat can make you slower but the power/stamina and energy you retain from the calories is worth it

No matter what size you are, or how in shape you are, getting hit on the chin by Mark Hunt puts you down.

Kongo looks much more dedicated that Rampage. I think with the fight last night Rampage lost a bunch of his future marketability.

Biggest damage to his career was definitely the fight with Rashad Evans which was so hyped but turned out to be really boring. People remember these things.

UFC has shortage of main-event guys at this moment. Lesnar quit. Both GSP&Silva are injured. None of the new guys are yet big draws. Rampage is fading and Belfort is booked in irrelevant nostalgic match against W. Silva. It'll be tough goal to break 500k ppv buyrate this year.

Fedor had no problems whatsoever demolishing this K-1 World champion as well as another one...saying that an MMA fighter can't defeat a K-1 World Champion is nonsense. This is MMA and not kickboxing.

Striking 101 :
Keep your hands up and protect yourself at all times
Keep your eyes open at all times
Never ever ever  turn your back.
Always keep your eyes on your opponent.
Do not flinch.

Thought Hunt had retired, nice to see he's still active. He's short, only 5' 10", but weighs 261 lbs (178 cm and 118 kilo). Similar build as Ray Sefo. Similar fighting style too. They both smile a lot, very positive compared to fighters who want to look tough all the time.

Mark Hunt is one of a few MMA fighters with the rare ability to take a punch from another fighter and commit to every punch he throws. When he swings at you you know it's coming and, even if he doesn't hit you, just a whiff of his gloves will scare you shitless. Fighters respect that immensely.
