In one of the Pat Banya threads, Kyomu stated that he should do an IOC drug test as it can test for banned substances for up to 10 years afterwards
How is this possible? The longest I've seen is 2 years detection time if you have 12" of hair

Could be wrong, but arnt those tests urine based?
-
I have no idea that's why I'm asking lol.
I don't see how drug metabolites can stay in the body for that long, especially short esters

Yes they are urine tested and poly.

Any info on how the drugs can be detected for up to 10 years afterwards? Are they stored in adipose tissue or something?

Last year at the Muscat Beach Games in Oman, they did blood testing...explains how some substances can still show up even after such a long time.

Sorry but I don't understand how some things can show up even after a long time. Can you elaborate?

Polygraph (Lie Detector) test - thats the only way... But even those can be beaten!
-
None can go back that far, the best can maybe pick stuff up that was used maybe a year to a year and a half ago ago (Deca being a big one), but the max time for testing is usually considered 3-4 months, most steroids and other drugs are far out of your system by that time. If an athlete picks his drugs right, and the standard blood or urine test is used, he could be on up to a week before the event and no one would be the wiser.
The oil based drugs are the worst, they tend to stick around the longest. They tend to disburse slower due to accumulating in fatty tissue, and the like.

IOC dont use polygraphs...
blood tests/hair/mouth swab tests are all harder to beat than urine

You are right...not up to 10 years, maybe just a couple of years tops.
