It seems pretty normal for a group of beings such as humans to notice the physical differences between their different groups and remark upon it. When different racial groups first met they unquestionably would've noticed different skin colour or eye shape immediately.

Millions of Japenese people are walking dead and they don't even realize it. They will develop numerous cancers and will be dropping like flies 3-5 years from now.
The radiation has saturated the Northern hemiphere and has been detected all over the world. You've probably breathed/eaten several hot particles of Iodine, and/or Cesium, and/or Strontium, and/or Plutonium since March 2011. However, you're taking in less hot particles than someone who lives in Japan, so it might take considerable longer for you to develop cancer... 10-30 years perhaps.
What's even more bizarre is that the lame stream media never talks about this. I guess it's not really bizarre when you realize who owns and controls the media.
