Title: Anybody thinking of turning off TV service?
Post by: Mr Nobody on March 14, 2012, 11:33:35 PM
I got cable on 2 tv's but never watch the shit its just on, noise in the background. I mean if you got a computer you can watch about anything you want over the internet. Just hook the computer to the monitor good to go. You could still get the Mr O, porn and boxing what else do you need? Damn I forgot Andy Griffth  :'( To hell with cable or rabbit ears.

No need for brainwash.
TV is a symbol for getting shit pushed down your throat and paying for the favor.
Internet is aeons beyond what TV once was, but the fools in power are trying hard to change that.

I forget the website (something like ditchyourcable.net) or similar, but it basically explains how to install a certain GUI on a Linux box, which has all of the internet TV stations (Hulu, etc) on one menu, which makes it easy to browse and choose what to watch. If I find the site I'll post it here.

Haven't had cable in 4 years. Its like $120 for basic time warner cable here. Never watched it, so got rid of it. Any game I want to see I go out to watch anyways, any tv show I want to see is on netflix, plus I can find more entertaining shit on youtube.

I haven't owned a telly for six years. Sold the one and only telly I ever had to a mate when I was at university. In the UK if you're watching telly, even if you only have the five or six free channels you still have to pay the "TV license", a ridiculous fucking tax of £145 (300$ ?) a year!

A story which is true. My grandparents never owned a TV in their entire life. They considered it evil. However there a good crime shows, information, sports and such which I would miss mostly the sports, but most of it is merchandising trying to sell you shit and bogus lies as to you need this and that. I'm on the fence. I feel I need it but hell you can get all you want on the the net so I may save a few$ and cut the shit off.

Nobody can force you to pay TV license. Every year they send you a bullying letter telling you to renew. They can't enforce fuck all. They have no authority. You know the "vans" they threaten to send around your corner, the ones that can "pick up" the television signal from your home and see what you're actually watching? It's all a load of bollocks. There is an organised resistance movement that has outed everything. Fines contested in court are always overturned.

Those TV license cunts that come around to see if you actually have a telly, don't even have the right to get into your home- they try to bully their way in, you have the right to tell them to fuck off. Then they try silly things, like going around the property so they can look inside through the windows.

You only need a license to watch the BBC iPlayer live. Watching recorded programmes is free. Most of them go online after only a few hours.

TV license = con

A very interesting analogy. I am not into beating on women but if one slaps me or kicks me in da nuts then self defense will be the norm.

I could do with local channels, NFL network, HBO, AMC ( just for the walking dead) and discovery.
Really, if i could just buy NFL network, and get free over the air local channels. Then buy sunday ticket on PS3. I wouldn't suffer one bit.
but local HD channels, and an apple TV/media server would do it for must people. But what a pain to DL everything.

A la carte cable TV/online TV makes so much sense.  Someday it will happen, but only if enough people cut the chord on traditional cable.

No way, I fucking love my TV and cable got all the movie channels!

The older I get the less TV I watch.  I am down to watching the Today show before I leave for work and Jimmy Kimmel as I fall asleep.  Once in a while I will record something on cable, but the DVR is full of stuff I never have/make time to watch.  I still enjoy access to the Netflix library, but If I were on a budget, I would definitely cancel cable/TV service.
