Imagine a print 30 by 40 inches...every bit as sharp as a 3 by 4 inch taken with a 35 mm camera...A 4 by 5 inch sheet of film has about 18 times as much area as a 35 mm frame...so you can enlarge the image around 18 times bigger and have it totally sharp...If you want to make very large prints that are needle sharp, you have to use large format.

Ansel Adams used large format.
