Students of a middle school in Fairfax County, Virginia, were given an assignment by their teacher to find weaknesses in each of the four GOP campaigns and research how to send the information to the Obama campaign.
A Virginia middle school teacher is under fire after making his students do "opposition research" on Republican presidential candidates, according to a report.
Eighth-graders at Liberty Middle School in Fairfax County were assigned to research the backgrounds and positions of Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul and find any “weaknesses,” according to The Daily Caller.
The students were then required to draft a strategy paper, mapping out how to exploit those weaknesses and then research how to forward it to the Obama campaign.
“This assignment was just creepy beyond belief -- like something out of East Germany during the Cold War,” a father of one of the students who asked for anonymity told The Daily Caller.
The teacher, Michael Denman, gave the assignment to his Civics honors class, which he broke up into four groups, with each one assigned a GOP candidate to investigate.
“My classmates don’t actually know a lot, but a few of us tended to agree that the most recent instruction on this project just didn’t seem right,” one of the students told the news website. Mr. Denman didn’t tell us where to find the information, just to research on them.”
John Torre, a spokesman on behalf of the Fairfax County Public School system, told The Daily Caller that students were never instructed to actually send their results to the Obama campaign.
“Instead, the teacher simply asked his students to find out the name of the office that would receive such information,” Torre wrote in an email to the news site.
Torre said the school's principal discussed the matter with Denman, and told him students should have been given a choice to research candidates from either major party.

Speechless. Well not really - most teachers I know are hard leftist socialists almost communists.
-
its a cool project - IF she required them to do research on a dem as well. Or let them pick as was mentioned.
really, this teaches a real and important part of the political process. these kids will look at politics for what it is - a gotcha game among corporate-sponsored tools.
-
This is why the educational system is in shambles. There are too many liberal buffoons like this one in positions of influence.

Obama already has the nomination. But there is some opposition research continuing, of course. The GOPers are the ones hammering each other with oppo research at the moment, so it's current.
It's a cool lesson, IMO. It's actually relevant. If youre interested in politics - taking honors civics in the 8th grade might be an indicator - then this is actually a pretty logical assignment, I think.
Aside from just shouting 'lib!' because it's looking at the misdeeds of the GOP... it really does TEACH the kids how the political process works, how voters are swayed, and the importance of keeping your nose clean & d*ck in your pants, if you want to be president one day.
Honestly, I dont think it's a bad assigment. Higher level, critical thinking. More synthesis and evaluation, than just knowledge/comprehension like some courses. it's relevant. If they were doing it in 2008, and dissecting whether hilary or obama had more baggage and how it affected them - that'd be relevant and useful too.

What does Obama having the nomination have to do with anything, dickhead? They could have just as easily researched all of your God-King's failures and sent them to any of the GOP candidates.
Another swing and a miss on your rationalizing the actions of a leftist scumbag.
Stories like this make it clear as day why leftists are so vehemently against private education.

Liberty Middle School
Brutal irony.

lol...teachers don't even bother trying to hide it anymore.

The Brits must be laughing at the world.
Teachers are for poor people.
The 1 tutor for 30 students model that schools have is silly.
The queen had private tutors.
Home school kids dominate all scores and meaasures of performance.
You learn by quietly reading and absorbing new information not by being near 30 other people distracting you.
Also far too little is stressed about facing a problem and attempting to solve it by various means aka problem solving.
The socially maladjusted commnists norms are not present in home schooled kids so they scare monarchical minded central planners.
Is it any wonder that many innovations come from individuals or smaller companies or remote corners of industry where the central planners are blind?
End patent trolling.

Good grief. Doesn't get much more blatant than this.
