Sci-fi is one of the film areas that has been, over the years, poorly served. There are a few really good sci-fi movies that are original, or have served the source material well, but there are 00's that are so poor, or mediocre. It is a genre that Hollywood continually poorly addresses. Your posted list is mostly *crap* AFI's list, which I don't care for is: http://www.afi.com/10top10/category.aspx?cat=7 (http://www.afi.com/10top10/category.aspx?cat=7)

Start with the AFI list and expand from, question, and look for antecedents, offshoots, etc. Keep watching, and keep enjoying. Never get snobby; and always keep your child's sense of enjoyment. :)
