If Mitt Romney becomes president, but congress is still unable to compromise on anything, what difference would a new president make?
Serious answers?

Since you've mentioned it I'd say it's true.

Well, Romney wouldn't have an intransigent Congress to deal with, I would think.

Oh I was saying that obama is actually a british agent to push forward the ww3 even more, support complete enslavement of the american people and overwriting the constitution. But he is black, so be trendy.
-
Same ole Republican bullshit you got with Bush Jr. Maybe a little more tolerable since I don't see him attracting the Rove/Cheney crowd. Romney is as dumb as a box of rocks, and a world class flip flopper.

One thing that will happen is the corporate tax rate will be decreased (now we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world per CNN this AM...Japan just lowered theirs). Despite the rhetoric, President Obama has not made a better environment for business and this recovery is much slower and meager than it should have been. I believe Romney will stop the power grab of government into so many areas, trying to control more than it should. Reasonable regulations are necessary and gov oversight is needed, but not government control and government ran entities. I am very concerned that if President Obama gets another 4 yrs and doesn't have to worry about attracting independents for re-election, his administration will enact many more big government policies.

Over the last few decades, U.S. corporate tax revenue plunged to historic lows, falling from about 6 percent of GDP in the 1950s to barely more than 1 percent of GDP today. Obviously, part of the recent low level has to do with the Great Recession and its effect on businesses and their profits. But while corporate profits have rebounded to their pre-recession heights, setting a record in the third quarter of 2011, corporate tax revenue has yet to follow suit:
After plummeting from 2007 through 2009, U.S. corporate profits regained their precrisis peak in early 2010, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The latest, revised data released just before Christmas showed corporate profits before tax rose to a record $1.97 trillion in the third quarter of 2011.
But corporate tax receipts, as reported by the Treasury Department, remain lackluster, even as the economy has gained some ground of late. Although they have trended higher in recent months, corporate taxes measured on a 12-month basis were still under $200 billion in November. That is well below a precrisis peak of about $380 billion and still far below the government’s fiscal 2012 target of $332 billion.
Corporate tax revenue has plummeted for several reasons, but one of the big ones is the growth of deductions, loopholes, and outright tax evasion that helps companies limit, or entirely eliminate, their income tax liability. 30 major corporations, in fact, paid no corporate income tax over the last three years, while making $160 billion in profits.
Weekly Recap - Week ending 30-Mar-12 Broad support on Friday helped the S&P 500 come back after booking three straight declines. The effort helped feed a weekly gain of 0.8%, which stands as the eleventh weekly advance in 13 tries for the S&P 500. That hot streak drove the broad market measure to a 3.1% gain for March -- its fourth straight monthly gain -- and a 12.0% gain for the first quarter. That marks the best quarterly performance for the stock market since 2009 and the best first quarter performance since 1998.

STFU Benny the gimmick. You're talking about an administration that can't even balance their own personal finances let alone a country.
-
We don't need presidents - we need people who would be willing to risk their head for equality and proper education.
Another milestone would be each citizen avoiding the consume of unnecessary corporate goods.
Buy local - no more Plasma, Nike, Toys, MC/BKing, etc.

Again, the rate is the highest in the world. That is a pure fact. Whether or not the company can take advantage of loopholes/deductions are another matter and require more dollars spent on accountants. So, reduce the tax rate significantly, cut the loopholes (usually taken by large companies) and reduce dollars spent on accountants. That is a simple solution to help business and likely wouldn't affect corporate revenues. Most small businesses are filed as S-corps and are taxed at personal rates...so, if Obama gets rid of the bush tax cuts (which assisted most people, not just the rich), small business could be taxed at 39%. That is f-cking outrageous...for people busting their ass, employing others and taking risks.
Benny, you seem like a big government near communist. I imagine you have never ran a business and seen how difficult it is. Have you ever hired anyone? Ever taken out loans and put your house up as a guarantee? If not, then I don't want to hear what you think is fair for business. Remember, most businesses in this country are small business, employing less than 25 people. I know that some large businesses are unscrupulous.
-
I know its near pointless arguing with you Benny because you are so closed minded. No personal flame intended, but you have a very narrow liberal view and never change your opinions even when presented with facts. Anyway, here is the huffington post, a liberal leaning periodical, discussing the high corporate tax rate. Obama even states he would lower it some (but then raise personal tax rates which screw small business). I'm with Romney 100% on this one. A 25% corporate tax rate is very reasonable and a compromise...and s-coprs shouldn't pay more than 25% either. Take out half the loopholes and we can make a near flat tax of 25% or two tiered rate with less deducitons. Our tax system is a complicated mess. We pay far too much to accountants too.

Considering that both houses of Congress will be under Republican control, no, I dont think Romney will have a problem working with them. His only problem will be what he will have to give up to to get the 6 or 7 Dems he will need to get legislation through. What he has to give up will probably anger some Conservatives.

Is absence of gridlock really what we need? The last time that happened, the GOP exploded federal spending and deficits. Not to mention the explosion of executive power and erosion of our civil liberties.

People seem to forget this. They complain about Obama but conveniently forget all the bullshit from the last administration, namely the patriot act and the huge increase in spending on an unnecessary war in Iraq.
-
True, Bush II spent way too much so its more than just the party in office. However, Pres Obama is still the greatest offender in that area, his admin. has increased the national debt by 5 trillion, more than any other president and his term isn't over yet. Federal government is currently spending more than ever before. If healthcare isn't repealed, the states will soon have an even greater burden of spending with the 33% expansion in medicaid (initially the federal gov funds much of it but hands that responsibility mostly to the states in time).

A lot of that is a carry over from the Bush war policy.
