Title: low back pain (near left hip)
Post by: shiftedShapes on April 07, 2012, 03:07:03 PM
This has happened to me twice in recent months and once a while previous.  The most recent two times it has been more mild and was triggered by low rows.  The time previous was more severe and lasted a few days was triggered by one of those glute blaster machine.

I gave up on the glute blaster (please bring on the jokes they will keep the thread bumped for serious replies), and will quit low rows in favor of bent over rows or chest supported variations.  What I'm wondering is though what could be the route cause of this injury and can it be healed.

the pain is not sharp it is dull and mostly comes when I try to extend the leg backwards.  Last time it only took a couple days to go away.

your advice is appreciated.

thx and may zyzz be with you.

QL strain.

I'm about 5 minutes into reading up on the QUADRATUS LUMBORUM, and it sounds like you are on the money.  I will come back if I have further questions.

Score 1 for Coach, thx!

Ok so based on my research this is how I would strengthen the muscle:

And this is how I would stretch it:

I do spend a lot of time sitting at desk every day so I will take breaks and stretch it throughout the day and try that strengthening exercise when it feels 100%.

I tried to come up with a proper course of treatment to show that I'm interested in putting in the work, and that I'm not trying to use you as a google substitute, but I'd like the benefit of your expert opinion.  What do you think I should do to correct the problem?

Any advice is appreciated!

QL strain.

Never heard of that, interesting.
Lately, I notice the same pain. Will any core work help to prevent/lower the pain, or is it simply a matter of doing hip stretches?

Damn you, LOL. What's more gay, doing hip stretches or taking pain killers?  ;)

Not yet, I need to spend more time in researching things.

there is absolutley no way to get rid of the pain unless you back off of it or do high rep lunges to warm up the lower back

if you train often and consistently this lower back pain or QL strain as you call it creeps up and is an unstoppable force im afriad  :-\
