MMI in the early 90's before selling out to Muscletech was probably the best bodybuilding mag on the market. Greg Zulak, Steve Neece, and the Q & A sections (Dave Fisher, Gironda, etc) in particular.
That magazine of his was a labour of love, the guy really enjoyed it, and it showed. Quality bbing magazine, but when faced with losing it or selling out like everyone else obviously he followed suit.Yeah he did publish some great books in the 80s, i got the whole series back then he done "Awesome arms" "Barn door shoulders" "Mass" etc etc, he was also a Loyal Bloke to Past Champs and gave those Former BBing Champs from past eras room in MM countless times.
Good writers, great interviews, columns and pics. Plus bob kennedy had some great books too
Not seeing Robert Kennedy at the Arnold this year, and not having him there for the first time ever to received his Lifetime Achievement Award was sad. Tosca did receive it for him, but exactly what Robert is suffering from is kept quiet, out of respect for family.
Cancer it is, and per Tosca's tweets, it is not looking good. However, she did tweet today
"We have been blessed with another day. I am grateful"
Robert is an icon - one of the originals , 30+ years in the industry, 6 magazines, countless books, and one of the 4 main publishers of the time (Joe Weider, Steve Blechman, John Bailik the other three). I myself have at least 100+ MuscleMags in my collection.

I got to hang out wit Bob in the early 90s. He was great bloke and very nice to me when I first travelled with Sonny. I saw him a few years back and he shared a story with me that brought me to tears. What he had been through was nothing short of tragic, yet he pushed on. Life can kick you so bad. My thoughts are with him. Much respect Robert Kennedy.^^

Could you one day share the story? There are ALWAYS events in life where we can all learn from. Sadly, Bob Kennedy never got to write a "behind the scenes" book, and I would bet that would have been an incredible contribution...
He had major tragedy in life with his son/wife, the accident[/i]
What kind of car?
He probably has regrets about buying that old but unsafe youngtimer convertible. Many times cars are an emotional choice alas..
MuscleMag had some quality contributors and articles at the time, especially compared to the Weider mags. MM was/seemed more independent and honest.
Sad to read he is in the end phase of his life.
Robert is EXTREMELY sick and all of us who are genuine fans of building the body with exercise and good eating should take some time to reflect on just how large a contribution Mr. Kennedy has made to our world.^^
I last spoke with Bob after Christmas on the phone. I had no idea his end was to come as soon as it has. The man always seems larger than life. Always bustling about, working out and making hilarious comments.
Never have I met or known a more individual and colourful character. His ability to see past what were to him minor roadblocks (some not so minor) was astounding. Nothing seemed to faze the guy.
I remember all the good times ... and even his fury when he fired my ass in '96 for something that wasn't my fault. Thought he was gonna yank my head off and chuck it across the room.
It took a few years, but eventually we both discovered the truth and mended our friendship. Still, he never stopped razzin me at every opportunity. I liked it, in truth. It made me feel as though I was a member of his "family".
I remember competing in my third bodybuilding competition and him and Johnny Fitness (MMI's other captain, and a wonderful friend, as well) asking me to strip down in Johnny's office so they could see my conditioning. The fright I felt at having these two legends critique me in an office in broad daylight was overwhelming. But they gave me the honest truth and always believed in my efforts.
Bob has always shown support and caring (he always returned my calls), and it is in his final days that I find myself reflecting on all that he has taught me.
Did Robert ever work out, or was he one of "those" fans? :-\^^
^^
Yes, he did bodybuild, before he became a journalist and ran his own magazine- took up all of his time, almost went bankrupt a few times, had to even sell his car to keep it afloat.
What kind of car?[/i]

I wrote Robert at this time with my disappointment in MMI. Surprisingly he wrote back claiming this wasn't the case and wishing me well in life. I probably still have that letter stashed away some where.
This...robert defintely cared about his readership and tried to appease everyone's tastes. witness his legends series for the old timers and history buffs among us. also including strongman articles.

Is there any hope Mr. Kennedy can bounce back?

Uh, the man worked out almost daily. I often hung with him and Johnny when they'd move some weights at day's end.
Injuries galore and these two still love pumping iron.
Bob was never "that" guy, dude. He is a man's man.
It`s great that Arnie doesn`t forget his friends.............good stuff!Wonder if he smoked a cigar in the room?
Very sad news. Musclemag crew hung around alot when i was Mohammed Makkawys training partner for his 83 and 84 Olympia runs and Gladys Portuguese 84 Olympia prep. Bob was the BIGGEST bodybuilding fan ever. His magazines "Annuals" covered all contests regardless of political affiliation and had the best photos always....^^

I'm very glad Arnold visited. Bob did so much for him early on in his career in North America. Always played him up (MMI's monthly Arnold feature, etc.).Yes that was the first pages I would read, then everything, Musclemag, late 90's was second to none I also enjoyed the Zulak uncensored, goods stuff, now it's all advertings.
