I’m “suspending” my campaign.
Why do politicos always say this? No one ever announces that they are quitting; they are always “suspending” their campaign. What’s up with that? Is it because only losers “quit” and no one wants to be perceived as a loser? ::)

Reason 1: Money
If they terminate their campaign, they can only raise funds to retire outstanding debt the campaign has incurred. However, by suspending their campaign, they can continue to raise and spend funds -- they will even continue to receiving matching federal funds, if they had qualified for them previously and hadn't opted out.
Reason 2: Delegates
By suspending the campaign, they still hold on to delegates they've already won -- an important consideration come nomination time. Delegates mean power at the convention. If they terminate, some of those delegates will be up for grabs. (This isn't entirely accurate: it only applies to certain classes/types of delegates)

Makes sense. Thank you. Though I often wonder who are the people who continue to contribute to a suspended campaign... or a campaign that ended one or two election cycles ago. ???

While AVXO's answer probably has more truth, I would tend to side with Bay.
Especially in Santorums case, cause he's a whiney crybaby, and I couldnt possibly be happier to see a candidate drop out.
I. Hate. Santorum.

You only like Jesus Christ! Remember?
And chances are, if he were here now you would hate him too. The authorities and conservatives of his own time all hated him. Of course, now they all love to claim him. :'(
