I'm considering getting rid of mine. Many reasons but the main one being the limitless excrement that drip through the screen courtesy of the British Broadcasting Corporation. All the TV shows I watch I download via torrents, purely to sidestep banal ads. When I watch Mad Men I DON'T want to be interrupted by slimy lawyers pleading for injured idiots, constant fucking barrage of comparison sites or car insurance solicitations. Watching these I can almost hear my brain cells popping and dying. Media in this country is now purely aimed at the average dumb shitkicker on the street. Which naturally are in the overwhelming majority.
So who here have taken the step?

I sold the one and only TV I ever bought about seven years ago. Wasn't really watching anything.

TV is needed to watch movies. TV stays.
-
I have not owned a TV for 10+ years. No cable, nothing.
Any movie or show can be downloaded or bought over the internet. single episodes, box sets, seasons, complete series, you name it.

If you're talking streaming, then I agree. If you're talking TV movies, I don't watch it because of the incessant interruptions with dumbass ads.
-
no tv! What is there to watch? Do i miss something?
-
I've got a 55 inch 3D tv but stream everything from the net. I cancelled cable a few years back.

Reality singing contest. Reality fashion contest. Reality J-list celebs on an island contest, Reality contest where nobodies get locked up somewhere and have to live together contest. Reality dating contest. Reality show where nobodies chases ghosts. Reality shows where fat disgusting slobs rev up the drama in their quest to lose 2lbs. Reality shows where nobodies race around the world.
And more reality trash

Dumped mine in 2002. Never miss it.
Most people do not miss watching TV, or read newspapers when on holiday. As soon as they get home, they fall back into their set pattern.

I got rid of mine in 2003, when it started telling me to kill my neighbours and eat them.
Recently my blackberry has also been telling me to do some crazy stuff, but I've still got 3 months left to pay on contract so i've locked all the knives away until August at least

rarely watch

It's on my short list of things to do. Along with going vegan...

true, but there's still some decent telly to be watched. like 'time team'. i'm gagging for those cunts to find summat like a golden crown, or a hole fucking sword, instead of the usual crockery fragments. still a great programme though.
'come dine with me' can be a riot sometimes.
there's always some quality on bbc4
then there's the sport. the free sport that is.. enjoy it before we lose the lot to fucking sky.
you're right though.. most of it's total shite, and tbh, fucking embarrassing dross.
the last thing i watched was something on the food network a few nights back. american diners, or some such...! i enjoyed it for what it was..

On evenings when your mother comes over I usually don't use the TV.
-
What the hell? You mean you have to go to a bar every time you want to watch the game?

LOL, it might be hard to imagine, correct? ;D
I still remember that evening, when I turned off the TV. The whole evening I was switching channels, looking for "something interesting" (whatever that may be...), but I couldn't find anything. That moment I became fully aware about the fact how "empty"/soulless modern television is (and these days it's even worse with all that stupid real life drama, advertising & b-movies shit).
The best decisions in my life, were the ones where I said "no" to something/someone.

Thats better than trash ass TV on all the time I'll keep the TV's I have to play pron DVD's and stuff but TV itself is getting old. Cut the cable.
-
My TV keeps me company and entertains me ... it doesn't require food nor drink ... there's no cleaning up after it .. I don't have to share anything with it and if I want peace and quiet it's easy to shut off
I prefer my 48" screen and sound surround to watch a movie than my 18" monitor

Nice if you can do that but if I have cable and tv the shit will be on all the time. Addicted to noise I guess.

Anyone who doesn't have a tv is a real fuckin weirdo.

I have a tv but I don't have cable/satelite, etc. I just use it to play blurays and watch netflix.
-
An audio/visual presentation in your home,...whether 16mm film/video tape/DVD/Laserdisc/cable/over the air/satellite...whether on your computer screen, LCD, LED, or a 1948 RCA...it's all tv.
-
Thanks, tv sheep
Sorry but sheep are up nzmuscles alley...
-
I have a tv but no cable/satellite - I purchased a cheap indoor antenna to pick up 12 hdtv channels via air, use ITV/BBC player to stream, have NetFlix, and Pirate Bay. So $8 per month for NetFlix is it.
