i think you can mess your back up raising up with any weight like on deads or squats
but this exercise you can keep your back bent and still get in the heavy lift
i guess if you dont do manual labor then you cant relate to the topic. Manual labor jobs use up most of your lower back strength since i think its mainly fast twitch and as more of a mobile muscle not a max lifting muscle unlike other muscles

DB row Falcon supports your lower back put your opossing leg on a bench to support the lower back. I have my clients on these to protect the vertebrae from getting twisted hence the nerves dont get a beating.

Keep your back bent? As in arched? Why would you do that?

if doing bent over rows with dumbbells I just lean my head on something, the back of an office chair that sits against the wall, substantially offload your back and your trapezoids will grow whildly
