Title: Wanting to ban cell phones while driving
Post by: pro nitrousADRL on April 29, 2012, 07:35:13 AM
With the recent talk of some in congress about banning cell phones while driving due to them being a distraction, it got me thinking. There are dozens of things that have caused hundreds of thousands of wrecks over the years because they were a distraction to a person while driving.

For example eating or drinking while driving/ lighting a cigarette/ women putting on make up, that has been happening for decades/ changing the radio station/ reading a road map/ dealing with ones children.

Those are just a few, so why is it now all the sudden people feel the need to ban phones. Yes they are a distraction, and I am all for public safety, but hell there are more flat out stupid drivers on the road than there are distracted drivers so maybe we should start with those people, and what about all the other distractions? Will those be addressed, cause they are distractions.

I personally have only been in 2 wrecks in my life, 1 was i got t boned by a woman putting on make up, and the other a woman turned around dealing with her children rear ended me.

That does it, I say we ban women drivers...:)

LOL I agree with your basic premise but I think texting while driving is something that probably needs to be given a decent look. You arent allowed to have tv tuner in your car in the front seat that can be viewed while the car isnt in park either.

I think texting has the ability to take a persons eyes off the road for longer than talking on the phone can.

I also think that as cell phone technology along with voice recognition gets better we will start to see more integration with vehicles and the less need to have the phone in our hands or see it to communicate.
