Krugman is a complete joke.
Krugman is a man that only see's things from the perspective of "We gotta keep this sucker runnin'". Your car needs an oil change in the worst way, instead of having it done you simply keep pouring oil into the engine even when the car is in motion. Is it the right kind of oil? Who knows.....who cares because you gotta keep that sucker moving. Hole in your tire? Stick some gum and duct tape on it, you can't stop, you gotta keep movin'. Leak in the coolant hose? Don't get it fixed just keep on pouring more coolant in the reservoir!

to the alternatives, SOME repubs fall along the line of "crash that car into a brick wall and then walk home".
You know, the congress members cheering about the shutdown of govt?

Excellent way of putting it.
You need to post more. I find you posts very informative and enlightening.

On the Uselessness of Debates
A bit of meta on my “debate” with Ron Paul; I think it’s a perfect illustration of a point I’ve thought about a lot, the uselessness of face-to-face debates.
Think about it: you approach what is, in the end, a somewhat technical subject in a format in which no data can be presented, in which there’s no opportunity to check facts (everything Paul said about growth after World War II was wrong, but who will ever call him on it?). So people react based on their prejudices. If Ron Paul got on TV and said “Gah gah goo goo debasement! theft!” — which is a rough summary of what he actually did say — his supporters would say that he won the debate hands down; I don’t think my supporters are quite the same, but opinions may differ.
Tales of historical debates in which one side supposedly won big — like the Huxley-Wilberforce debate on evolution — are, in general, after-the-fact storytelling; the reality is that that kind of smackdown, like Perry Mason-type confessions in court, almost never happens.
So why did I do it? Because I’m trying to publicize my book, which does have lots of data and facts — but those data and facts don’t matter unless I get enough people to read it.

That's the look of a man who has seen his ENTIRE economic belief system discredited and shamed in the last several years with no respite in sight.
He's shellshocked.

Krugman spent all day yesterday on TV and finished up on Charlie Rose who ultimately asked the right question. In the last few minutes of the interview Charlie asked If we agree with Krugman's spending now thesis how do we deal with the huge deficits once the economy is healthy again?
Mr Krugman stated simply that that was easy but he would probably "get in trouble" for his answer which was "Death Panels and Taxes". He defined death panels as eliminating medically unnecessary procedures and taxes as a VAT in addition to income taxes.
The left screamed when this kind of government control of health care was defined as Death Panels because people like Krugman would determine who would get life saving medical care and who wasn't worth the cost and now the high priest off their economic theory matter of factly argues that the whole world economic crisis is going to be solved by spending money we don't have and then letting people die before they can receive their entitlements.
Government economic planning always includes this basic plan, those that we can not afford; they simply allow to die.

I think Charlie Rose is the best interviewer/journalist out there. He lives not too far from me and he is always at his farm in the summer. We see him outside playing with his horses sometimes when we ride by.

I'm hungry so to satiate my hunger I am going to start eating myself. And when I'm healthy again I will, uh, grow those limbs back.
Problem solved!

What I don't understand w people like Krugman is they never ever give you any idea of what is too much debt and what to do if the debt they want to incur doesnt work as they promised?
We spent 5 trillion in three years alone and things have only gotten worse - and people like krugman think the answer is to spend more?
FNG please.

People forget the "Bush Stimulus" as well. The govt. has been stimulating quite a bit or at least attempting to.
Look at all the spending over the last several years:
Budget deficits
-Total new debt racked up
-TARP
-Auto bailouts
-CARB
-All of the home loan/mortgage gimmicks
-Still fighting 2 wars
-Legacy loans, subsidies, green initiatives
-Zero interest rate policy
-QE1 +2 + Operation Twist.
-All other accommodation, gimmicks
-Payroll tax-cut
-Continuation of "Bush" Tax cuts.
All of that plus more.....and what does this economy have to show for it?
Not much.
So I ask Mr. Krugman this, after all of the above....what is left to spend?

I hate Krugman's "I'm intellectually superior to you commoners" condescending attitude. Typical clueless progressive doing more harm than good.

I really enjoyed that discussion: Paul vs. Paul.
On yesterdays Loose Change segment of Lauren Lyster's CapitalAccount, Demetri & Shannon dissect Krugman's statements refering to him as a space cadet. It was an interesting and informative episode.
