Title: Paul supporters score near sweep of national delegates (MN)
Post by: Bindare_Dundat on May 21, 2012, 12:04:31 PM
Paul continues to pick up delgates in many states.

ST. CLOUD - Supporters of presidential hopeful Ron Paul picked up 12 of 13 national delegates chosen at this weekend's state Republican party convention. They will represent the state party in Tampa, FL at the Republican National Convention.

The audience of mostly Paul supporters erupted after they realized they nearly swept the slate. It means 32 of the 40 delegates heading to Tampa are confirmed supporters of Ron Paul. Another potential Paul delegate, Don Huizenga, dropped his bid after he didn't pick up the needed 50 percent. That means GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann, a one-time candidate for president, can be a delegate.
"We're very happy," said Pastor Kevin Erickson, a national delegate elected out of the 8th Congressional District. "From Minnesota, we'll cast 32 votes for Ron Paul. The rest, we'll see what happens."

The strength of Paul's supporters means several well known Republicans will not be headed to Tampa. They include former Congressman Mark Kennedy, state Rep. Keith Downey, Republican Party Treasurer Bron Scherer, Republican Party Deputy Party Chair Kelly Fenton and 6th District Republican Party Chair Jen Niska.

haha Bachmann surrounded by real liberty lovers. Love it. They actually gave the position to her but didnt have to do this, since it was a gesture never given to Paul supporters in states like Arizona where the GOP says 'fuck the rules' and replace Paul delegates with their own. Wheres BeachBum to bitch about the undemocratic tactics used by the GOP?

You rang?  lol.  I'll give you a mercy post:  yawn.  He's not going to be the nominee.  I'm really interested to see how he performs in the Texas primary at the end of the month.

it'd be hilarious to see Ron Paul LEGALLY steal the nomination from Romney.

The ultimate irony that the CT candidate ends up being the guy to use the system to assfck itself.

Yes, and changing rules is something RP will probably have to face over and over.  There's not a lot of laws governing the parties so they are free to make and break the rules as they see fit.

IMO, the only real control on that power is by drawing or attempting to draw public criticism and criticism from within the party.

I think it's highly highly unlikely at this point.  Can't write him off entirely, but it's not looking good.

The best thing mittens could do is offer rp treasury sec position where he could really clean house.

as veep, rp would get nothing done.  treasury or F'ed chairman would be the. Tits.
