Replica. Not awarded to an actual winner. Back of trophy pictured below and on the Ebay site.

You know dick about Jay.  And a Sandow is upwards of $13,500 for a single casting. So $9,500 is a steal if it is a "real" Sandow

Interesting - seller is some dude with nearly 20,000 sales. Obviously not a former winner of the O unless they're selling it on his behalf. Probably just a replica in which case it's pretty worthless..

This looks like a replica, not one that was given out.  At the Weider offices in Woodland Hills, a few of these were in some of the offices.  With the inscription saying Muscle Builders Magazine (1953 to 1980), this looks an extra copy of one of the older Sandows given out that was kept.

Muscle Builder was an early Weider magazine from the 50's - 80 or so, I'm guess this was a magazine photo prop or similar, although they might of sold replicas. The seller is a long time collector of this sort of thing.

You must be one of the guys in Dave's videos.  Your love for Jay is undaunting.  If he was purchasing real estate at or near price before the economic downturn, then he got waxed.  You can like it or no.

And that thing isn't a Super Bowl ring, so $9500 isn't a bargain for an used one.  $950 sounds more reasonable.

Usually a BB contest winner gets a plastic "trophy" bought for 6 dollars 95 at the local trophy shop. Or maybe a medal costing 2 dollars 99 to purchase at most.
You really think this almost moneyless sport hands out small statues that cost 10,000 dollars or more? Seems extremely unlikely to me..

Pretty sure they used to sell these through muscle and fitness around 1981. No idea how much they were.

Muscle builder/power was the precursor to M&F

This is probably a replica that they used to sell in back of mags, nice to have for 50-100 bucks. Some fucker is taking a chance and trying to rob people

It would be interesting to see what would happen if someone rocked up with a real sandow statuette at the Pawn Stars shop(gold & silver store).
"I'll give you 5 bucks..."

What industry is that? Gay for Pay or Illegal Distribution of Narcotics, Analgesics and Anabolic Steroids?

I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for that trophy, since <1 in 100,000 people probably even know what the hell it is.

Then its basically worthless since it was never one of the Sandows earned by a Mr Olympia.  I wonder who the seller is and why are they doing it for???  Something's wrong here

Someone with an ebay account should ask the question about the history of this thing. Was it won in a contest or was it sold thru the magazine for $19.99.

He will have to either make up a story about who the seller is or admit it's woth a fraction of what he's asking for it.

Is that trophy made out of Gold, Platinum or Diamonds? Because frankly, I can't see that trophy being worth more than $100.

It looks more like a collector's item.

The seller is is a known dealer in this sorta thing, especially printed matter.

I think what's happening here is that the seller might not have an idea what these should go for, or might only have a vague idea, so he's hoping to catch a good offer with the "or Best Offer" Ebay tab. You see it a lot with collectibles, you set the price high on the supposed rare and wanted item, and some goofball in a fit of lust offers you way more than market for it. Realistically, I'd figure it would go for $500 - 1000 if left as a stand alone auction.

I doubt anybody, minus Arnold could get anywhere close to that for a Sandow real or replica.

For instance, here is a site that deals in vintage awards from far more popular sports and many things are under even 1/2 the Sandow's asking price  -

Down at the bottom of this page, it was made mention that Weider sold better copies for $1,000 each in 1980, so maybe this is one of them -

So, how much would an earned Sandow go for from a former Mr. O?  A few years ago some Oscar statues went for more than a million before the Academy put a stop to their sale.

I'm guessing a real Sandow would go for $10-30k.

If you walked into a pawn shop and said, "I want to sell this Sandow won by Jay Cutler" they are going to look at you like you have 50 heads. For a pawn shop its about what they could sell, and most people are not going to want to buy a sandow. I highly doubt up to 30K

Huge difference between an Oscar and a Sandow lol

I think a Ronnie or Yates Sandow might do high 4 figures or maybe $10,000 to the right moneyed Schmoe, but it might take awhile.

Arnold's 1980 Sandow certainly would do great money, because of the crossover appeal and bodybuilding's importance to his life.

Someone should get one of these and try to get on the show Pawn Stars and bring it in with a bunch of bodybuilding mags. Would be hysterical to see the reaction from those guys. I'm guessing he wouldn't give more than 50bucks unless it was one of Arnold's sandows.

Some people don't know that the very first Sandow was presented in 1901 in a london bodybuilding contest to a guy called William Murray. I think Sandow himself presented it to him. There was a gold, silver and bronze version for 1st 2nd and 3rd place.

In 1950, a copy of the original Sandow was presented to Steve Reeves for winning the Nabba Mr Universe.

I think Weider tried to buy one of the originl 3 sandows from the family of one of the 3 winners of the 1901 show in the 1970's but they wouldnt sell it at any price. They did lend  it to him in order for a copy to be made.  Think I read this in muscle smoke and mirrors volume 2.

I sent the cat an inquiry on Ebay. My questions, their reply:

Me: Greetings- As a long time bodybuilding fan I find your Sandow very cool and quite interesting. Could you tell me a bit more about this particular trophies history?

Was it a trophy given to an actual winner?
Do you know what year this trophy was made?
Has it by chance been owned by a notable bodybuilding personality?

Thank you very much for your time.

Reply: I'm sorry we can not answer your questions, as we do not know who it belonged to.

end.

Tommy, could you ask him if it was given to a winner or if it was one of those replicas sold thru Musclebuilder back in the 70's? Joe wanted $999.95 for them i think.

If one is talking about bodybuilding it goes without saying that we are not talking about what interests "most people."  I am sure there are some hard core muscle fans out there who would want an earned Sandow.  Who you ask?  The sort of guy(s) that collect years worth of muscle magazines, muscle videos, attend expos, etc.  Aren't the premium seats an the O pretty pricey?  That's the audience I'm talking about.  In addition, there must be more than a few pro athletes (with real incomes) and other celebrities that follow BB enough to want a real Sandow if it went up for sale.  I don't patronize pawn shops so I will defer to your expertise on buying and selling in that venue.
