Title: MCT?
Post by: trulytoned on November 02, 2005, 09:20:11 PM
Funny story for you, the other day i had a guy over hooking up my cable and internet, and he sees my Ronnie Coleman-Cost of Redemtion, and my Jay Cutler video. He asks if we are body builders then goes on to talk about some cooking oil he used to use called MCT, he said it gives you a crazy amount of energy. Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this MCT stuff?

medium chain triglycerides.

Meh.

It won't give you crazy energy. It was somewhat more popular a few years ago. Twinlab had an MCT fuel. I never tried, it but heard it was so-so for endurance and horrible for some peoples' lipid profiles. No matter what the bottle says, it can still have an impact on your cholesterol/triglycerides (obviously).  There's many better options out there for endurance these days. Try citruline malate, even creatine will extend your performance to a degree.

Medium chain triglycerides are more easily digested by the body than other fat molecules. Medium chain triglycerides are also a direct energy source for the body.  In this sense, they mimic the function of a carbohydrate.  The body can use MCTs for a number of purposes. These include being used for fat burning and for the production of ATP.  MCTs are usually highly recommended for a fat loss program that cuts carb intake, and subsequently drops energy levels.

Not necessary, but good stuff.
