It seems like the commission has finally decided to go after Armstrong. They must have some really good evidence to come out after all these years.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has notified former cyclist Lance Armstrong that it intends to file doping charges that could strip him of all seven Tour de France titles, a source familiar with the case told ESPN.
Armstrong received the letter Tuesday, saying the USADA intends to file charges that he possessed and used human growth hormone, testosterone and blood-doping products while a member of the U.S. Postal racing team, beginning in 1998.
Armstrong
The Washington Post first reported the letter of notice Wednesday afternoon.
Under USADA procedures, Armstrong has 10 days to respond to the charges, after which an independent anti-doping review panel would look at the USADA evidence and decide whether formally to charge Armstrong with doping.
If he contests the charges, he is entitled to a "trial" where evidence would be presented and witnesses would testify under oath. It would be up to Armstrong whether the hearing is open to the public.
Armstrong denied the allegations Wednesday.
"These are the very same charges and the same witnesses that the Justice Department chose not to pursue after a two-year investigation," he said in a statement released on his website. "These charges are baseless, motivated by spite and advanced through testimony bought and paid for by promises of anonymity and immunity. ... USADA's malice, its methods, its star-chamber practices, and its decision to punish first and adjudicate later all are at odds with our ideals of fairness and fair play.
"I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one. That USADA ignores this fundamental distinction and charges me instead of the admitted dopers says far more about USADA, its lack of fairness and this vendetta than it does about my guilt or innocence. Any fair consideration of these allegations has and will continue to vindicate me."
As a result of the charges, the World Triathlon Corporation has suspended Armstrong, who recently resumed his career as a triathlete, pending resolution of the case. He is currently able to compete in non-WTC events.
The U.S. Attorney's office in Los Angeles announced earlier this year that is was dropping an investigation into an alleged doping scheme with the U.S. Postal team that could have resulted in conspiracy and fraud charges against Armstrong.
A lawyer familiar with the case said the government shared no information from its case with USADA.
The lawyer said "more than 10" other cyclists were asked to speak to USADA officials about evidence against them, but only Armstrong refused to meet.
USADA CEO Travis Tygart did not respond to messages for a comment.

I agree, but you know they like to go on witch hunts. I'm sure Armstrong is hated by everyone outside of the U.S. anyway.

These organizations know damn well drug use is rampant in the sport , they have to act like they give a shit and they don't , Lance and whoever else has to sell this bullshit image of I don't use anything
It boggles my mind that somehow PED's have got a negative rep as if they are more harmful than 90% of prescription drugs , some prescription drugs actually have a warning label that says may cause death!!!!
in NYC a 20 year girl dropped dead on the subway a few years back , cause of death , her birth control pills cause a blood clot and PED's are bad ???
politicians are to blame , they needed some cause to justify their existence and sold this to the general public

Gee, I wonder how all those speed (track) cyclists get those big quads. Surely, it's from cycling, like Disgusted said...
Armstrong may look to what happened to American Darling Marion Jones...
-
Why fucking wait all this time? They knew he was using shit while he was still active. They even had that Landis dude (ex-teammate) rat his ass out a few years ago. They must be pretty fucking sure.

This might not be a popular stand but...
Anybody who was lucky enough to recover from cancer, only to pump himself full with drugs which are untested on a long term basis... Fuck that you brought it down on your self.
-
do these fuckers ever go after the nfl teams ? or have they been told to back the fuck away?
-
In a sport full of drugs with all of the top guys using, we're supposed to believe that the one clean guy won 7 straight, and that he is somehow the victim of a cospiracy against him.....yeah ok, lol!!!
That's like saying that Ronnie was natural all these years while everyone else was on.
Whether he used is his deal, but he should stop trying to play people for fools.
Who's advising him, Rob Bailey!?!?!
-
I`m sure Lance would give his left nut to clear himself, wait what?
-
I put it in the original post. Thanks to Arce.
Thanks :) God if they take the seven wins away from him I'm gonna but a bottle a fucking expensive bottle of champagne, and I hate that stuff ;D
I wonder if they would give some of the wins to Ulrich, who was just as juiced, but a much much much better athlete than Lance!

Yeah but those organizations police themselves (or are supposed to) they regularly test and administer fines, suspensions, bans etc... What does cycling have besides the Agency? My stand is this: If you are gonna have the nuts (or nut in this case) you better make sure you tell no one, and can pass all of the tests.

Instead of LA saying, "I have never used drugs"..... he needs to change it to, "I've never tested positive"
It's one big, dirty business and he's the leader of the cycling mafia.
-
a total waste of tax payers money. At that point Lance has convinced himself that he "innocent" enough that he could pass a polygraph test.
Unless you have a doctor/chemist with written records and video proof nothing will come of this case
-
Of course he wasn't but for somebody who plays the whole - I would never take anything ala american hero Fidel he dersevers it.
What would have happened to him if he said "sure I cheat, we ALL cheat"? They would have hung him out to dry. Of course he denied...they all deny it. If you can't win clean because no one else is clean and you can't admit cheating because the powers that be will fry you, what fricking choice do you have but to cheat and lie about it?
-
he is retired! why do they still care
-
I hope he gets nailed. I dont care that he used drugs, but I hate his shameless self promotion of being an all natural, hard worker, and that is why he is successful ::)

how much tax money have they spent already trying to prosecuting Roger Clemens , 2 of the juriars already got dismissed for falling asleep , another one just left cus he was going on a 6 month ski trip to germany....

Fucking this. I have no idea why they decide to put their noses in it. It does not help anything. If Lance says he didn't dope, and some aspiring kid thinks that, he may not use PED. Now, if they prove that he did, some aspiring kid will think "fuck it, I guess that's what I have to do to be good". The government sucks ass.

It's more about the sorry schmuck who finished 30th while being legit clean. As long as there are people who don't use, then they need to either punish the juicers or make it legal. That goes for all sports.

Lance is supposedly a real POS much like Cleman's. He's gotten a pass for the most part because of all the good he's done for cancer. If 85% of all baseball players were using like Jose Canseco said, then its safe to say that 100% of all cyclist were doping.

Can we just leave this fellá alone for christ's sake? He either dominated what's probably the hardest test of endurance in the world for seven years running while doped to the gills against a bunch of other elite athletes who were also doped to the gills, or did so even without doping. Either is pretty badass.

While he did battle cancer, I find this to be a poor argument. Battling cancer does not mean that the rules dont apply to him and that he can cheat and get away with it. Battling cancer has nothing to do with the fact that he may have doped. The fact that people are mentioning his cancer battle is an Appeal to Emotions to divert people away from the truth (drug use).
Plus, not to mention that there are children battling cancer as we speak, as well as thousands of other deadly ailments.

Taking down a former hero means they get a few more million tax dollars to burn next year, and most importantly it makes the average fatass feel better about themselves when they can comfort themselves with the idea that someone's phenominal ability was 'all drugs'
-
He's a liar
And the gullible public that wore his bracelets should know this
All cyclists dope, and all olympic athletes dope, all professional sports are full of drugs.
And that's fine, its to even the playing field. Its not like the athletes can admit using ped's, its not PC
But, armstrong has made himself a clean wholesome image, as the cancer survivor that did it through hard work and clean, and he has blasted others for using drugs
Deserves to be stripped of medals and shamed. Fuck him
-

Totally agree. I seriously doubt there's another professional athlete, living or dead, that has been drug tested many times as Armstrong. During his pro & amateur career he's probably been tested close 200 times. 200 ! The USADA needs to be tested- they must be on crack for continuing to pursue this nincompoopery.
-
If an athlete has his balls chopped off, is the athlete allowed to use synthetic testosterone to make up the difference? And if so, I'm guessing he would be quite a bit of leway on how much he can have in his system.
-
Of course Armstrong did drugs, like every top cyclist past and present. But he still was the best for 7 years of these users. They should leave the guy alone, what's the point.....
Lance Armstrong is the getbigger of cycling !!!

-
In the article he says he's been tested over 500 times and never failed a test.... :o
Never failed a test because these teams hire the best doping doctors in the world. They're 2-3 steps ahead of the testing protocol. They can tell the athletes the exact time windows to administer the PED's, masking agents, etc... and it will not show up positive on the test. It's amazing. They have it down to the hour... if they go over that critical window of opportunity, chances are it will flag a positive test.
Plus, many of the officials, testers are bribed with cash payouts to reveal when, where, and whom will be tested. It's one big business with huge egos, huge contracts, and sponsors who demand results. It's so shady. I've worked in the cycling arena for many years and I got so disgusted with it all, I just had to step out.
-

You fuckers know not of what you speak. USADA is not a governmental body nor is this a criminal case, so that would mean no statute of limitations. There is no criminal penalty nor tax money involved here

Wow, that's crazy. 500+ Drug test. I was thinking EVERY of all those tours + the one day Classics+ all those other multi day stage races. 500 drug test and never a single positive. DAMN!

Anyone know how many IFBB pros have tested positive steroids ???

No....it's a nameless, faceless bunch of anonymous kunts who will stop at no end until they've smeared Lance Armstrong's name. This has nothing to do with right/wrong or justice/fairness. Any member of the USADA that brings a suit like this forward should be personally liable for civil damages if Armstrong wins.
Cycling is so corrupt it makes boxing and men in thongs look clean by comparison.

Exactly. He deserves to burn. Just like the "natural" bodybuilders who are dissing
admitted drug using bodybuilders and making a "career" out of being natural, all the while being full of drugs. If his whole sthtick wasn't about being a genetic anomaly who didn't need drugs then it would be another matter. He deserves to burn just like he thought others who were caught deserved to burn.

It's not just a LA witch hunt, they're going after his team director Johan, as well as, quite a few teammates. Johan is still directing the team.
Charges against Johan Bruyneel
Specifically, Bruyneel is charged with:
– The possession of prohibited substance and/or methods.
– Trafficking of those prohibited substances and methods.
– The administration or attempted administration of those prohibited substances and methods.
– “Assisting, encourage, aiding, abetting covering up and other complicity” involving anti-doping violations.
– Aggravating circumstances which would justify a longer period of ineligibility than the standard sanction.
As a summary of his actions, the letter said that numerous riders will testify that “he gave to them and/or encouraged them to use doping products and/or prohibited methods.” In addition, witnesses “will also testify that Bruyneel worked actively to conceal rule violations by himself and others throughout the period from 1999 through the present.”

They all use drugs, why are they specifically targeting him?

Cycling is probably the one sport dirtier than bodybuilding. But, it's so obscure who really cares? If you're racing a bike 2,100 miles over 3 weeks through the French Alps, you deserve a little performance enhancement.

Because he's the one asshole who won't just the fuck up about it and likes to go around pretending hes some kind of saint in a sport full of devils

That's true and that's what Lance's Dr said (Dr Ferrari). He said that EPO is as safe as orange juice and that these guys race so hard that drugs would only protect their health. Of course Lance and Ferrari claimed they didn't work on doping protocols together. ::) :D
I don't see them as targeting Lance unfairly, if anything it's been the opposite. Other top pros have been busted whereas Lance has been protected... Lance has tons of money to work the system. Lance has been the face of cycling so why should he skate free when others have been fucked over? Lance is a fraud selling lies to the general public who really believe him.

Our long running saying in the cycling-racing world has been, "If you want to be climber, all you have to do is climb 8 steps up to Dr Ferrari's office door"

True, but I come from the thought that you don't rat on anyone. Ever.

I'm just curious why there is such a crusade to go after these athletes so many years later. It's laughable that it is based on some sort of moral high ground. You'd get the impression that PED's are the worst menace in all of society, when in fact, the tax dollars being expended could be much better used elsewhere.
I have no idea what type of person Lance Armstrong is in real life. I also don't know if he has used, but do not care either way. There are those steadfast in tearing this guy down, when they'd be better off letting him maintain the image that has allowed him to raise millions of dollars for cancer and inspire people, falsely or not. In the big picture, if they ruin this guy, it will prove and accomplish nothing. Meanwhile, all those athletes that are ratting him out, will have there own indescretions quietly swept under the carpet, being Lance is the bigger fish.

No kidding. I assume most everyone is using "something" to get an edge no matter what high level sport they compete in. To think otherwise is, imho, ridiculous just as thinking testing will stop anything.
