Included in many discussions on Obamacare was the impending strike down by the Supreme Court
Next week they are supposed to rule on it.
Call it now will it pass or be over turned?
(we all know 83% of doctors won't quit their profession if it gets passed, even people who suck spin cock don't really believe that)
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/06/11/supreme-court-saves-best-for-last-2/ (http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/06/11/supreme-court-saves-best-for-last-2/)
As usual, the Supreme Court, although close to the end of its term, is in no hurry to decide its big cases. Among the remaining cases to be decided in the 2011-12 term:
Broadcast indecency: The court is weighing whether fines levied by the Federal Communications Commission against broadcasts it considered indecent violate First Amendment free-speech rights. The cases at issue include awards shows where celebrities such as Cher uttered expletives. Here is past WSJ coverage. THURSDAY UPDATE: The court ruled against the FCC in the indecency case, saying it didn’t give fair notice to broadcasters.
Juvenile sentences: The justices will decide on life sentences without parole for juveniles convicted of homicide. It’s the latest case in which the court is considering whether harsh sentences for people under 18 violate the Eight Amendment prohibition of cruel and unusual punishments. More details in this WSJ article on the arguments in March.
Stolen valor: The Stolen Valor Act, enacted in 2006, makes it a federal crime for a person to claim falsely to have received a U.S. military medal. A California man admits he lied when he said he won the Medal of Honor but says his statements were protected by the First Amendment. Here is the WSJ coverage.
Arizona immigration: The court’s final argument of the term, on April 25, involved Arizona’s tough anti-immigration law. The justices suggested they were ready to uphold at least one part of the law—a provision directing police to check the immigration status of people they stop—but the fate of other provisions was less clear. WSJ argument story here.
And, lest we forget, there’s one other matter before the Supreme Court that has gained some attention.
The fate of President Barack Obama’s health-care law—the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—is expected to be decided in the last week of June. Here’s our coverage from March 27, the pivotal day of arguments.

side note for discussion: If it gets shut down is OB toast in November? If it gets passed is OB winning in November?

Sadly, no it won't be overturned. :(
(we all know 83% of doctors won't quit their profession if it gets passed, even people who suck spin cock don't really believe that)
Of course they will. They have cities to torch.
-
My call is no it will not be overturned
-
Hope not
-
of course it will be overturned.

Romney is probably hoping it does NOT get overturned.
Cause if the economy is getting better (rick scott admits it is in broke ass florida..)
Cause if Obamacare if no longer an issue (if it is overturned)
What does Romney run on? What is his core issue? Toss out economy and obamacare, he's gonna do WHAT exactly better?

If the mandate goes, it's all academic. I think it goes down 6-3.

What are you smoking again? Less than 24 hours ago, you were complaining about Fox News, not focusing on the fact that the economy sucks, to cover "Fast and Furious".
Now, you claim the economy is getting better, only because you think that hurts Romney (even AFTER the abysmal jobs number arrived today).
As for citing Rick Scott of Florida, that's no difference than Scott Walker in Wisconsin. The theme the same: under REPUBLICAN governors and legislatures, some state economies are improving IN SPITE OF, not because of, Obama's policies.
-
Romney needs a cause to get ppl to vote for him.
They're mad about the economy. They're mad about obamacare.
The minute they're not mad anymore, voter turnout suffers.

This should be more interesting than any reality TV shows...

This is insane, it's like something out of North Korea.
I'm sure Adults in a free country need their Television censored for them.

Voter turnout suffers for Obama, not for Romney.
The truth is, they should be happy. Tuesday's vote was about a lot more than Walker. It was a test of the election strategies both parties have been deploying for November. It was mountains of money flowing through super PACs against grassroots organization, Tea Party conservatives against labor union liberals, and the influence of the national parties at the state level.
The Republicans even had a chance to test the effectiveness of their "big government is what's causing the still-sagging economy" message.
It worked.
And the Democrats are shaking in their political boots....
What's scariest for the Democrats is that they fought with all they had, in what the head of the Democratic National Committee called a "dry run" for Obama's general election ground game.
They sent in more than 100 paid staffers to work with teams of volunteers fanning out from more than 40 party-run offices.
"All of the Obama for America and state-party resources, our grass-roots network, is fully engaged," DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz told the Times.
It failed.
And, if the result in Wisconsin is truly a sign of the pent-up power conservatives will unleash in November, Obama is going to have to do a much better job of getting the vote out.
The problem is, Obama is strong with Hispanics, blacks, gays and youth. But that might not help him much.
Hispanics, blacks and young people have the lowest voter turnout of just about anybody. At least one 2007 study showed that gay men and lesbians vote in stunningly high percentages, but they make up a relatively low number of voters -- an estimated 7.3 percent of the nation’s total at the time of the study.
Republicans are strong with Tea Party conservatives, Evangelical Christians, and older voters, who all tend to turn out for elections in extremely high numbers.
That all adds up to good news for Romney. Wisconsin proves it.
http://en.terra.com/elections-2012/news/obama_shocker_wisconsin_dry_run_is_a_democratic_belly_flop/act482183
Why are black people going to rally for Obama again? Highest unemployment of all demographics!! Toss in Obamnesty and the gay "marriage" flap.
Why are young voters going to show up again? Half of college grads are unemployed/underemployed. Teen unemployment is at record highs.
The unions just stated that they aren't funding his campaign anymore and Romney's outraised him two months straight and (even by some Dems' admission) will generate more money than Obama.
That doesn't sound like people failing to turn out for Romney.

Your messiah is at 43% on gallup today.
You = FAIL
-
You legally have to pay for health insurance.
THAT IS BEYOND BELIEF.....
Certain groups would be excluded (illegal immigrants, drug addicts, criminals, people that won't work), but have the same access to free healthcare as the people paying for it.
The Middle-class would be anally raped once again.

Mandate overturned 6-3

That. 33 is spot on with this one; at least I think. Regardless of the outcome it will be an interesting decision to read.

Ginsburg sort of let it out of the bag from what I can tell. I think Sotomayor sides with the conservatives on the mandate, but She and Kennedy go w keeping the rest.

You think her little jokes the other day gave it away? I'm not all that convinced, but we'll see.

But, there's no severability clause. Without the mandate, the whole thing collapses. Like public-sector unions, most people will run from this as fast as their feet will carry them, if they aren't forced to pay for it.
But, of course, the delusional left and our resident TK members, much as they did with the Wisconsin woodshed whipping, will attempt to spin defeat into victory (in the likelihood ObamaCare goes down).

240's way ahead of you. He already see's this getting overturned as an Obama victory.

Little details like that are of no concern for the League of Evi... I mean for the Supreme Court!

No, it will harm obama's legacy in a big way.
But it will also be one less rallying cry for romney. he was speaking from a 'repeal obamacare' podium about 2 weeks back. THAT is probably the biggest issue (aside from economy) that motivates repubs to donate, knock on doors, etc.
We all know that if the economy is perceived as better, and obamacare is gone - Repubs are a lot less pissed off. Not the batshit crazy angry ones that post here. The ones who take their meds.

Yes, short of your one little "disclaimer", you just gave us an excuse why Obamacare being repealed will help Obama (and therefore will be regarded as a victory for him).
Already spinnin'. I know you like to troll the right on here, but people arent stupid.

Maybe you think UE drops to 4% and Romney still wins. I disagree lol.

Yeah, cause im such a huge supporter of Romney.
Im under no delusions about Romney's chances - he's not going to blow Obama out, and Obama is not going to blow him out. Its gonna be close. You, on the other hand, seem to take every shred of information that comes along as helping Obama and hurting Romney.

nope - I am just able to see nobody 100% wins or loses on everything.
Obama was in serious trouble with F&F if Holder starter yapping about it. So he took a small PR hit with the exec order in June, as opposed to testimony in late october pointing at him for it.
It's a hit that obama takes - but i think we can all admit it's a small hit compared to what repubs had in mind for his ass.

Inside the Supreme Court Health-Care Decision
Medical care accounts for 18 percent of the U.S. gross domestic product — and it is taking up at least as much of the mindshare of plenty of American entrepreneurs and business owners.
At this very moment, the economic basis of the entire health-care system is up in the air, as a result of the imminent U.S. Supreme Court opinion in the health care reform law cases. Court observers expect the decision any day now, and most likely before the end of June.
"This is going to be one of the biggest decisions to come down in our lifetime," said Robert Litan, vice president for research and policy at the Kauffman Foundation. "The economic impact could be tremendous."
For American entrepreneurs and employees so far, the waiting has been the hardest part. That's because the decision is likely to have so many ramifications and third-order effects that it's nearly impossible for business owners to forecast all the possible outcomes.
"As the person responsible for setting up health care for our 70-employee company, what I want most is some certainty," said Josh King, vice president of business development and general counsel at Avvo.com, a company for which health care is the second-largest expense after salaries.
"While the [law] has its issues, at least it's a step toward more predictability in health care," King said. "If the court starts tearing it apart, I fear we'll have to spend more time thinking about health care and less trying to run and grow our business."
Here's how most observers expect the decision to play out — and what that means for this country's small and fast-growing companies.
Businesses With Fewer Than 50 Employees
First, an important caveat: Most of the employer provisions of the health care reform law apply only to businesses with 50 or more employees. So, if your business is smaller than that, you're mostly off the hook — and you won't be required to provide health insurance to your employees regardless of what the court decides.

But if your company is larger — or if you're already growing and expect to someday employ more than 50 people — there's a lot of unsettled business. Bigger firms that fail to offer their employees insurance could wind up paying government fees, which would kick in when employees obtain insurance independently. At the same time, the law would create exchanges and subsidies for individuals who buy insurance on the open market, and would also expand the Medicaid program.
Of course, there are many other provisions and exceptions. For example, even though companies with more than 50 employees would be required to provide insurance, they would also be allowed to skip paying the $2,000-per-employee government fee for the first 30 employees who didn't have health insurance. (If you're having trouble with that exception, rest assured that we had to think it through a dozen times before it made sense, too.) The truth is that once you get deep in the regulations —many of which haven't even been written yet —nobody really knows how things will settle out.
The Individual Mandate
Most of the legal attention has been focused on the so-called "individual mandate," which requires people to purchase health insurance, either through their employers or on the market. It was this provision that garnered the most pointed questions from the justices at oral argument in March.
"Can you create commerce in order to regulate it?" Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy asked at the time, apparently trying to figure out how the United States could justify requiring people to buy health insurance under the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution. He later added that he believed the government faced "a heavy burden of justification," and was "changing the relationship of the individual to the government."
Under the mandate, individuals who fail to acquire insurance would be subject to government fees — although the exact nature of those fees, and whether they would amount to taxes, penalties or something else — is one of the more esoteric but important issues in the case before the court.
Despite the 2,400-page law's complexity, the possible outcomes really fall into three categories. The court could strike down the law, uphold the law, or strike down some provisions. If that happens, it's most likely that the court would get rid of the individual mandate will while upholding the rest of the law.
What Happens if the Court Kills Obamacare?
Most experts don't seem to think the court will strike down the health-care law in its entirety. But it could happen.

STFU. UE is going higher!
rick scott bragged that the jobless rate has decreased for the last straight 11 months.
is rick scott lying, 33?
-
The most significant part is the section where the government claims that it can force all Americans to purchase health insurance under its commerce regulatory provision. Obama erroneously compared this to having to purchase auto insurance.......however, auto insurance is not necessarily for yourself, it is for someone else should you damage their vehicle and injure the driver. This creates the ultimate slippery slope......one of the Supreme Court Justices (Scalia, maybe) asked if the government should not also force everyone to purchase cell phones, because at any time there could be an emergency and you may need one, forcing you into a situation that you may have otherwise stayed away from. The same could be said about having to eat healthy food...and what is considered healthy nowadays?
I believe this particular provision is overturned.
-
Individual mandate is going down. Doesn't really matter what they do with the rest because it will be toothless.
-
it harms his legacy.
it hurt republican motivation in the short term.
Maybe you think UE drops to 4% and Romney still wins. I disagree lol.
Again, what are you smoking? There ain't no way in HELL unemployment gets that low in four months. Obama better pray it doesn't put nine percent again, or he's TOAST!!
NOTHING is going to hurt GOP motivation to get this bum out of the White House. Your concern should be with Democrat motivation. AFL-CIO announce they aren't coughing up any dough for his re-election campaign, for a number of reasons (INCLUDING Obama's abandoning them in Wisconsin).
Obama's donors are dropping like flies. And the president's approval rating (Gallup) just dropped to 43%, where it was about this time last years AFTER Bin Laden got whacked.
Romney's outraised Obama two months straight; and now, despite all the bragging they've done over the past year about Obama' supposedly having a billion dollars to spend on re-election, the lefties now FEAR that they won't be able to match Romney's crew, dollar for dollar.
Oh, did I mention that humiliating defeat for the Dems in Wisconsin?
The GOP has clobbered the Dems in the last two high-profile elections. Yet, you think that Republicans will lose motivation, going into 2012 (based on something that, in no way, shape, form, or fashion will happen before November).
Again, lay off that sticky green!!
-
is someone here saying that if Obamacare gets overturned that its good for Obama?
Take a wild guess!!!
It's about as daft as that hack Lawrence O'Donnell, claiming that Obama was the "big winner" in the Wisconsin recall, after the union bubbas and the Dems got their first-class trip to the woodshed.
