Between that and crossfit, i'm fucking sick of people going on about this new craze. Fucking Joe Rogan started selling them now and can't stop talking about how 'wicked' it is. Why is it that everyone looks for every other method of getting in visible shape than the most proven, effective one? Lately when i workout, my motivation has been saying, 'fuck you Joe rogan' as i go to failure on another set.
I had a woman tell me about this great revelation she experienced in doing cross-fit. I've gotten in great shape (for me) by doing 3 weekly workouts, balls to the walls, for like 45mins at a time with an actual workout time of about 20mins if you don't include warm up and rest between sets. And this is all thanks to following the most basic bodybuilding principles: eat at least five times a day, center my diet around protein, creatine, one set to failure and increasing my rest times as i get stronger.
I'm thinking about doing PT for the summer but i'd fucking hate it if the only thing clients would expect is this new craze call kettlebells. I assume most of you fags in here workout, have been for some time. So tell me you find this shit as maddening as i do...

Theres a big difference between "weight lifting" in shape (I.E. bodyfat only), and athletically in shape (I.E. endurance)
Not defending crossfit, but "in shape" means a whole lot more than just bodyfat levels.

What’s bullshit is when people say a certain method is the only way to train and everything else is inferior bla bla bla...the same can be said for diet methodology, high carb , zone, CKD, keto etc. etc.
it's like religion people are so extreme and exclusive in their views and get hung up one thing at the expense of everything and everyone else!
Kettlebells, sled dragging, prowler pushes, body weight circuits, hill sprints, low intensity walking, barbells, dumbbells, machines they're all just tools to use.
-
I remember when this shit came out they said kettlebells training thickened your waist.

Never really dealt with kettles. They look like a delt injury just waiting to happen.

That is true to certain extent but what some people are doing is complete unnecessary and it's more like they think they're special because they train in a non-traditional way, aka attention whores performing attention whoring movements, that's what is wrong about those "methods".

There`s a couple of idiots in my gym who grab a kettlebell, swing it between their legs a few times and then leave!! ;D
Talk about intensity!!

Hell no, I don't waste my time with that crap!

No thanks, my joints hurt bad enough as it is.

Kettlebells have been around almost longer than weights themselves so it's really nothing new. Done properly they're a great tool to include in training. In many cases they can take the place of explosive exercises like some O-lifts. Also done properly can actually help in shoulder rehab depending on what it is. My wife just got RKC certified about a year or so ago.

Anything with Dan John teaching is worth listening too.
-
I like KB's....I don't use them for any meaningful strength training, but they're fun to dick around with for cardio...
-
Dan John is a smart guy.
KB's are a different tool. Not a revolutionary tool.

The thing i don't like is that a lot of trainers are doing it, probably in fear of thinking they'd be out of touch with the 'fitness' industry if they aren't doing what everyone else is doing. You can get around the fact that if you want to look in shape (not necessarily be a decathlon athlete) you have to do certain things. If not weight training, at least resistance training in the form of push-ups, pull-ups, etc. I mean, just look at your average gymnast.
I think most people couldn't give two fucks about overall health. If you're a woman you want to look hot as fuck and if you're a guy that isn't a baller or very famous, you'd at least want a decent looking physique. Maybe if you're in shape, have been training for a while and want to do KBs for shits and giggles than good for you. But to use them as a primary method of getting in shape is, i think, akin to going around the block to cross the street.
The thing about weights is that they are literally the body sculpting tools. You can use it to look like a twink, a mass monster, or a 'fit' looking dude. I enjoy the challenge of going into the gym and leaving everything in there and feeling like a fucking superhero.
But i'm at an age where to each its own. I'm happy with what i built. I just feel most of these people aren't gonna get the results they're looking for. Until the next fad...
