Title: TRX - what's your opinion?
Post by: Papper on June 29, 2012, 01:03:00 AM
This has to be some American bullshit. Lately, my gym has been showered with the trend of functional training, crossfit and now something called TRX is "revolutionizing" the way people train. Already some 5-6 machines has been sacrificed and other machines has been crowded together.

I suspect nobody asked for this but the members seem to blindly obide by what their PT says. And they PTs push this thing hard. Probably big money behind.

Getbig.. Thumbs up or down?

Never heard of it.

Basically a big rack with ropes hanging from it.

From the TRX site:

”The TRX is awesome. It helps me with my core and helps me stay lean, rather than getting bulky.”

I've used a suspension trainer a number of times...it's a fun challenge to move your bodyweight through different angles.  Some of you people are so fucking reactionary...if it doesn't involve plates, bars and a bench you go into hysterics.  Lighten up, Luddites...

It's a tool like any other. If that's what you like to do more power to you. Just don't tie up my machines by hanging them on them.

Agree in principle, my friend, but the TRX is a pretty good complimentary piece of equipment, and is damn convenient for a home gym.   Now, yes, it's overpriced and the same thing can be made for under $20 with chains and pvc pipe from Home Depot, but that's a different story.

And LOL at posters trying to equate the TRX with anti-American sentiment.

Not for me. I only see sub 200 twinks doing that shit. Personal trainers use it to justify getting paid.

It's a neat adjunct to regular weight training. I put in the same class as gymnastic rings, various bands/strands, odd bars, kettlebells, etc..... A nice change of pace from traditional work.

As with most things, it's some of the people involved that have soured the product, but the product itself still has merit.

Tons of exercises options, completely portable, ideal for home use, developed by Navy Seals, and a perfect compliment to any serious training regiment.  Only lame to someone ignorant on its applications.

Olympics gymnast training + body weight training + gymnastic ring with ropes/chains = TRX (read NOTHING NEW)

I don't know that people are arguing that it's "new"...I think the people denigrating it are doing so because it doesn't involve plopping down on a bench with a weighted bar and counting to 6-8....

Exactly.  These guys don't realize that they can use TRX, but still drink their water out of an empty plastic milk jug, move really slow while adjusting the straps, look around to see who watching, etc...
