Who shoots off fireworks for the 4th?
How much do you usually spend for your pyro fun?

They're actually illegal here in Massachusetts but that never stopped anyone from going over the boarder to Rhode Island or New Hampshire

We used to buy from Phantom Fireworks. We'd spend close to a grand between my Uncle, cousin, and me.
A few years ago, Unc got an ATF license, and I got a federal employee possessor permit. We started buying from dealers who only sold to licensed individuals, and learned that the stuff places like Phantom sells is impotent and vastly overpriced. We currently purchase Class B & C pyro items from a place in Kentucky, and we get better stuff, more of it, and for a fraction of the cost.
That, alone, makes it worth getting a license.

we used to go to china town in nyc and get everything dirt cheap, that was 20 + years ago though

This thread's title should be changed to "Who shoots off fireworks for the 4th and how much do you usually spend for your pyro fun - Fireworks?

Does anybody else find that going to watch fireworks is boring as shit, even the 'best' ones in the world. But shooting off even the gayest fireworks is fucking awesome?
-
In the city of Los Angeles (which includes a lot of mini cities - Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, Beverly Hills, etc), they dont allow you to purchase any fireworks. You need to go out cities like El Monte, or Rosemead, etc to buy fireworks. But the frown on you using them here., for obvious reasons (fire, injuries, idiots).
Many of us go to various parks or venues (which are free), which usually have a 15 minute fireworks display starting at 9pm Wednesday night, and usually some music, bands or other entertainment beforehand.

I live in SE Michigan...they just relaxed the fireworks laws. We would shoot off stuff that by definition was illegal before tht any way. We live in a rural area...almost never see a cop. Usually spend @200-250 bucks.

I have no idea what the laws are here, but it seems some people spend a small fortune on them ~ hundreds to thousands. There are permanent fireworks stores all along the highways. Any given night around her I can look in any direction and see them ~ some several miles away. The local parks shoot them off on the 3rd/4th and they're nice displays, but the average joe has some pretty darn impressive displays too. I just don't understand spending $75 & up (several hundred) PER. I can understand the public ones, but private people spending thousands ??? I don't get it. I've been to private birthday parties where they spent over $6000 :o Such a waste IMO.
The lakefront shoots them off several time throughout the summer. HUGE displays that go on for over an hour. We'll be on the lake watching them again this year (boating tradition with friends). It's fun, but almost too long (drinking/bathroom issues).
Maybe it's just a big thing around here ??? Bartolatta is a huge company here. It's cool watching them from the lake though.

Only rednecks spend good money on fireworks ::) I can understand watching a huge fireworks display, but I stopped caring about personal fireworks after 10.

Fireworks are sweet. My friends and i did some stupid shit when we were kids. We used to have "firecracker wars" which is basically 2 groups of people stand 20-30 feet away and throwing and shoot rockets out of pvc pipes at each other..... :-\
now I spend small money, maybe 50-100 twice a year.

I put ear plugs in and blinders on I hate fireworks.

Reigning neighborhood champs 4 years running, but I'm ready to give that shit up. Almost. Spent about $250, but the show is being scaled way down over the arms race of the past 2 years.
Note: I spent $250, but the shit we get from TNT (which my group sells) is worth maybe 10% of that. They normally release only 2-3 'value' fireworks per year and then price gauge suckers on the good sellers in subsequent years when word gets out that a certain firework had more bang for the buck than any other. The majority of the stuff they sell is crap, and they make a shit ton of money on it, but they have to include SOME good stuff in their shacks otherwise people won't come back in later years.
