Federally-Funded Study Finds Firework Injuries Occur Most Around Fourth Of July
CHARLOTTE (CBS Charlotte) – File this study under “obvious.”
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission — a federally-funded organization — conducted a special survey last year from June 17- July 17 and found that 65 percent of all fireworks injuries occurred within the month of the July 4th holiday.
The report also found that four people were killed by either professional-grade or homemade fireworks, while over 9,600 were injured.
“For thousands of consumers, last year’s 4th of July celebration ended with a visit to the emergency room,” CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum said in a press release. “CPSC wants you to understand the risks with legal and illegal fireworks, in order to prevent an injury, or worse, during this holiday.”
The most often type of injury was burns to the hands and fingers. Adults between the ages of 20-44 were most likely to get injured. Males were most injured from firecrackers, sparklers, bottle rockets, novelty devices, Roman candles, and reloadable shells. Females were more often injured at public firework displays.
One person was decapitated during a firework incident. In others, people reported loss of fingers.

uhmmmm.... yea, I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you, Skip and 240. :D We don't need a taxpayer paid study to tell us that fireworks are explosive and cause the most injury during the month they are used the most. This is like conducting a study to determine my shit doesn't smell good but even smells worse when I eat bean burritos from Taco Johns... gee, ya think? Thanks for wasting my money to tell me that.
and if the goal is to ban fireworks, yea, well fuck that too.

Yeah, I dont agree with the taxpayer funded study, but I do agree that in order for them to try and ban fireworks that they need some data. It always seems to go like this.

I don't even agree with that. You don't need a study to impose temporary bans on fireworks. And if they're doing a study to ban fireworks permanently because they're dangerous, how lame is that? In a couple years kids are going to be engaging in an even more deadly activity... Driving... Life isn't safe, I don't need my taxpayer money spent to tell me that. The nanny state can go fuck itself. I'll teach my kids how to light bottle rockets and get the hell out of the way all on my own. I get banning them when it's a fire danger but we don't need studies for that.

Correct. It wouldnt suprise me in the least if they are going to try and ban fireworks. Everything is dangerous now days, trying to protect everyone from themselves. Its bullshit.
