Title: Mitt Romney Ad Taken Down Over Copyright Claim
Post by: blacken700 on July 16, 2012, 05:42:16 PM
Source: Huff Post

One day after President Barack Obama's campaign put out a brutal ad making fun of Mitt Romney's singing abilities, the Romney campaign responded in kind with a web video mocking Obama for singing Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

However, on Monday afternoon, that video was no longer available. Viewers who tried to watch it were greeted with a fuzzy screen and the message:

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by BMG_Rights_Management.

Romney campaign under fair use did absolutely nothing wrong.  youtube is completely wrong to remove the ad on basis of copyright infringement.  But as Tony is so fond of promoting here, they can do whatever they want.  It's their business.

Hey, you take the good with the bad.

I hate apple as a company but I still have an iphone b/c its the best phone out there(the new samsung phone has caught my eye though)

I agree though, how the countless music videos can stay up there but this gets taken down is beyond me but I dont think they violated anybodys rights and as long as they didnt violate anyones rights its shitty but within their rights.

Actually it's a little different than just posting a musician's track from a CD on youtube.  Under the law, in the context Romney used the material, it is absolutely legal under fair use.  But yea, as we both agree, youtube can do whatever they want in this area.  But I'm free to bitch about it too.

On a side note, it's really confusing because many professionals actually want their material to be spread across the net for promotion.  So some people are getting their asses sued for doing it while a good portion of copyright holders are actually wanting that to happen.  The public gets a huge mixed message and that needs to be fixed.

yea I agree and I am free to bitch and boycott too the problem is just like apples iphone there really isnt a viable alternative.

I feel ya on the suing part and musicians wanting their music out there. I cant remember the name of the band but they had a hit song out not to long ago in which they didnt allow a video on youtube and it actually made me want to hear it even more b/c I couldnt go listen to it whenever I wanted.

weird...

Romney took that singing from this clip. Why did the Romney ad get taken down and this one is allowed to stay up?
