A 4-year-old boy died after he took a bullet in the head during a wild shootout on a Bronx basketball court Sunday night, cops and witnesses said.
Two men were also wounded in the gunfire that erupted during a hoops tournament at an E. 165th St. court in Morrisania about 9:40 p.m., police said.

Police search for evidence at the scene where a 4-year-old was fatally shot Sunday night.
A 4-year-old boy died after he took a bullet in the head during a wild shootout on a Bronx basketball court Sunday night, cops and witnesses said.
Two men were also wounded in the gunfire that erupted during a hoops tournament at an E. 165th St. court in Morrisania about 9:40 p.m., police said.
The slain child was identified as Lloyd Morgan. An observer who said she was a friend of Morgan's family said mothers began searching the courts for their children when the guns finally silenced.
“When my friend didn’t see her kid, she panicked,” said the woman. “Then she saw him on the floor, shot.”
A team of medics brought the little boy, to Lincoln Hospital, where he died. A 27-year-old man was taken to the same hospital with a bullet in his stomach.

“It was a nice day,” said one witness, who declined to give her name. “People are all out and before you know it — it was Pop! Pop! Pop!”
People scurried around the court to get away from the spray of bullets.
“People started running everywhere,” the witness said. “They were screaming, a frightened scream. People were running, crossing the streets — not caring if cars were driving. They were scared.”
Another witness said the shooter, a man known as Spidey, started shooting at someone playing basketball. The basketball player shot back, hitting the child, identified early Monday morning as Lloyd Morgan.
A 31-year-old man went to St. Barnabas Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Both men were expected to survive.

Witnesses said they saw at least two gunmen open fire on the court before they ran away. No arrests were immediately made.
“The basketball game started on the wrong foot,” said State Assemblyman Eric Stevenson (D-Bronx). “It’s a bad name of a team for starters.”
Stevenson said a rally would be held at 5 p.m. Monday to call for an end to the violence.
“The bullets struck a child and cost him his life,” he said.

My hood is still relatively better than other parts of the Bronx, but the bad parts are going back to early 90's era.

I used to live in a shitty trailer park. We assembled a team of neighborhood watchmen who would all come out of their houses when one of us blew a whistle or set off our car alarm.
Any bad guy lurking or passing thru would suddenly have two dozen sets of eyes on him. The place went from gheetto to peaceful in a month.
33, why don't you step up and tell these little a5sholes to get off your block? Are you scared of them?

we didn't tolerate a single dirtbag. they woudl come to the efficiencies. We would call the police on them for crime, we would keep good lookout for misdeeds. Often, they would make friends and join our polite, non-confrontational safety group. We didn't call them asshoels and chase them solo into the darkness like some wannbe heroes would. No, we just walk in groups and keep an eye and report misdeeds.
most of the time, a dozen sets of eyes (complete with armed owners) will politelu tell a bad guy to take that noise down the road.
I can help you - if you're sill working to find the courage to assert yourself to lawbreaking neighbors. I remember you witnessed a store getting robbed and you did nothing. That doesn' thave to be your reaction. You CAN step up and be a real man and protect your neighborhood from crime, 33. You just have to escape the fear you have.

Actually, it's not typical at a streetball tourney for gunshots. I've been to several in DC, Baltimore.

how are you going to ball, but have a gun? And if this is a tourney for someone slain, it would make common sense to hold your beef to when the tourney is over so that no bystanders are hit. Or just squash your beef for the common good, as the tourney is for a slain victim.
