Penn State dodged the Death Penalty Monday morning, but the punishments handed down might be worse.
The president of the NCAA Mark Emmert announced that Penn State will have to pay a $60 million fine, serve a four-year postseason ban and must vacate all wins from 1998-2011. Emmert showed his displeasure for the entire situation.
And as far as recruiting goes, Penn State will lose 10 scholarship signees per year for four years and then have a reduction of 20 players on the roster.
So to simplify it, Penn State will have a signing class of 15 rather than 25, and they will have 65 players on their roster instead of 85. To make matters worse, any player can transfer immediately without sitting out.
So what does that do for recruiting moving forward? In theory, this is actually worse than the death penalty. Though Penn State will still be able to compete on the football field, they won't be able to generate revenue because of the fine, which was equivalent to the average annual revenue of the program, which makes the future of Penn State football unstable.
Before four star defensive lineman Greg Webb and four star cornerback Ross Douglas decomitted from Penn State, the Nittany Lions had the 14th best recruiting class according to ESPN's rankings. Expect the program to drop significantly in the rankings after losing those athletes, along with whoever else decides to withdraw their verbal.
How many of Penn State's now 12 verbal commitments are willing to sacrifice their postseason and still play football at Penn State? Commits Christian Hackenberg and Adam Breneman are doing their best to make sure this class does stay intact, but there's only so much you can do after such harsh penalties.
Following the actions of Jerry Sandusky and these sanctions handed down by the NCAA, prestige isn't exactly a good selling point for Penn State anymore.
It's a long way to the bottom, but unfortunately for the Nittany Lions, they hit rock bottom in a matter of seconds. Expect it to take several years to get back to the top.

YES!!Good riddance. Glad Paterno is dead. Fuck him. Piece of shit.
-
probably on eof the best decisions made out there... death penalty wouldve sucked for whatever footbal player whom does decide to stay, because it wasnt the players fault

Make sure you don't fuck up in life, so we can be there to put a foot on your grave. Piece shit UaSsA. It ain't just him. I wonder what corrupt heads of the NCAA are going to do with that nice $60M. Oh, they'll give it to athletes. How about sex vacations? Fuck them all!
-
I am glad it happened, I am more pissed this fucked up my MBA degree's reputation. Fuck Penn State and Joe Pa. I was never a fan of the football team, even though I love football. Joe pa was worshiped when he was some fucking delusional old man, now found out to support child molesters.
-
It will take that program 10-15 years AT LEAST to return to the state they were in previously to the outing of Sandusky.
-
^ prob more than that, to bad joe pa wasn't alive to see this...
-
Fuck College athletics in general, biggest fucking scam going. I never watch it and never will.

You're an idiot. Sure, everyone fucks up in life. But most peoples fuck ups dont include covering up the abuse of children. There is a continuum of "fuck ups" and this is a big one, one which most people do not make up. So I stand by my statement. And the other people that were involved in the cover up should get what they deserve to.
As for the people receiving 60million, well, that is a separate issue. I am talking purely about the topic of covering up child sexual abuse, which is a widespread phenomena.

woulda liked to have peed on statue before they removed it.

they'll vacate the wins but not the $1 billion plus they made in the time from 1998 to 2011.
With title XI, the big loser is not football but the other programs that shared in the football revenue. They should have allowed all kids to play this year, transfer out and then ban the school from football period for 10 years.
Fucking USC lost scholarships and bowl ban for 2 years from 2010-2012 and this season they are a favorite for the championship. They didn't lose shit.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( what happened to the asshole character witness for jerry sandusky who said it's not unusual for grown men to shower with young boys. he than went on to state that he himself showered with little girls this guy should be in a cell right next to jerry s as far as i'm concerned. :'( :'( :'( :'(

At least that long. They will be as bad as Indiana in football.
GO BUCKS!
FUCK MICHIGAN

I don't understand punishing the fans and the players. Fine the school but don't ruin the program. Just what is the NCAA going to do with the money? Give them selves raises and create more positions to hire their buddies.
-
Penn State will return.....it will take a decade....but Obrien will bring them back.....Sandusky is the piece of shit that created this disaster.....Penn State is a great school.....don't blame the students or players....
It is going to take time.....

This news wrecked my day!

What cracks me up is that the school has to "vacate" wins as if the games didn't turn out the way they did.
So now players from the 2000 Louisiana Tech team that lost 67-7 to Penn State can brag that they "won" the game? ::)
SMU got the death penalty for getting caught paying players. They might have never missed a game if they tried kiddie diddling instead.

Punish the fans? If the fans had any class they would run from that program in disgust. What a monumental clusterfuck!

Grambling produced the great Ronnie Coleman, the greatest Mr. Olympia that had ever lived!

if someone could bring Paterno back from the dead, knowing what's going on right now, Paterno would have said: fuck that shit, I'm better off dead. leave me the fuck alone".......he's lucky death claimed him before all these revelations. the rest of his old ass would have been in jail

I could give a fuck about you or your fallen white hero. the shit they pulled at penn state goes on south of the usa when i did NPO, is known by every white piece of shit from America - Europe, but nothing is done. USA and its' hypocrites mean nothing to me. Keep the statue up and give penn state their money back. it means absolutely shit on a stick to me, as does your response.
Oh, and I didn't even read it, but someone posted it was a good response. ::)

They are setting a precedent that this sort of thing will not be tolerated and must not happen again (or else we will cripple your football program). Personally I think it needs to be done even though it penalizes some people who were not at fault.
For the athletes who are good enough to make a pro career out of it, they will still do that regardless of any penalties the school faces; if you have pro talent you have pro talent. For those that don't or for the fans who won't get to enjoy an elite football program anymore, that's too bad but there are more important things in life than sports. In the end it's for the greater good that they're made an example out of to stop this from ever happening again.
The money is going towards children's charities supposedly, the NCAA doesn't just keep it. It's a corrupt organization but they aren't THAT corrupt.

Obrien was very successful with New England.....He has an uphill battle but he has the balls and that is what it will take to get the school past this terrible mess.
The players can transfer....but maybe they have a desire to stay and finish their career at PSU.
Especially the juniors and seniors that will start or see significant playing time.
The students will be there to cheer the players on.....remember the players had nothing to do with this unfortunate situation. Neither did the students.

the pats have been contenders and super bowl winners long before o'brien showed up, not to mention all of belichecks assistants have failed as head coaches, he has proved absolutely nothing and was only hired because he was the only one willing to take the job
all ncaa sanctions have punished people that had nothing to do with the crimes, this is nothing new

Hey Earl......heard the Patriots are looking for a new coordinator.....why don't you take it bro....everyone does well with the Pats.....you could do it! You might look good in the process. At least Obrien has the balls to take a job that will have tough times ahead. You can sit on your ass and critique the job he is doing.

i just mailed them my resume, hoping to at least get an interview
maybe o'brien took the job because the pats might have considered showing him the door after challenging brady to a fight?
i won't do that if i get the coordinator job
