That is their strategy, they can't compete head to head where the Americans, Africans, Caribbean and euros are strong, so they focus on their strength and "obscure" sports. But, what happens when the other countries become strong on those? The Chinese are effed.
The drug testing is a joke, only Americans will be scrutinized, and nobody wants to penalize the Chinese, or jeopardize the inlfux of cheap chinese goods...

Exactly...dude has nothing left to prove. He's the greatest swimmer of all time without question. If he wanted to, he could have trained for these olympics and dominated again. Nobody has even beaten his times from Beijing yet, including the 400 IM and 200 freestyle. What's left for him??? Would have been nice to see him train for the sprint events just to see if he could have dominated those too, but oh well.

As the US swim coach said: "The final 100m was impossible. Flat out. If all her split times had been faster I don't think anybody would be calling it into question, because she is a good swimmer. But to swim three other splits at the rate that she did, which was quite ordinary for elite competition, and then unleash a historic anomaly, it is just not right."
The girl was holding back until the end, so she wouldn't destroy the world record by too much. Unfortunately for her, she let it rip too much in that final 100.

Im talking more or less, that is what the Chinese do--the true marque sports are Track and field events, you can't argue with that. Been that way since the original Olympic games. Add wrestling as well.
The swimming/diving are the appetizers for the other events...gymnastics and basketball didn't become really popular until the late 70s and early 80s.

This is horrible thinking. 1 third of the world is Oriental, you can't categorize 2 billion people into one ethnic group, nothing could be further from the truth. Japan, China, Thailand etc all have extremely different culture, traditions, way of life and everything, they are not the same.
There are over 20 countries in the world that speak Spanish. I am from Costa Rica and have ancestors from Spain, so we are the same as people from Argentina?, or Columbia?, hell no, we aren't even close.
So all black people are the same? Over 20 African countries and believe me you put 2 distinct tribes men that hate each other in the same room they will tear each other apart.
My 2 kids are half Filipino and I will be damned if someone called them Chinese. No different then someone calling me a Mexican.

The swimming/diving are the appetizers for the other events...gymnastics and basketball didn't become really popular until the late 70s and early 80s.
