Title: Why no debates between prominent minds these days?
Post by: Hugo Chavez on August 03, 2012, 04:23:24 AM
Today all we get is spewage from the likes of hannity, rush, olbermann and madcow on their own turf--how nice... ::)

There are no more great debates between leading minds with opposing views like there use to be?  Honestly, WTF?  Cowards all?

Is it time we collectively tell them to put up or shut the fuck up?  In a world where we don't give a shit if it goes past a minute is it even possible?  Where is our culture headed if we can't even stay tuned for longer than a minute?

There is no way Rush or Oreilly are among the top 50 wisest conservative minutes.  Just as there is no way Ed Shultz or Laurence ODonell are among the top 50 wisest liberale.

Just as there is no way nirvana is among the top 50 most talented bands.

Just as there is no way etc etc etc.

I'd rather watch a toad fight a rock.  I didn't mean to suggest we need debates between Rush and O'Donnell.  I mentioned them because that's all we seem to get today is these assclowns making arguments on their own turf.  Where are the great thinkers?  dying or dead and no more pubic debates like there use to be.  It's a major loss imo and not a promising direction for our culture...

people won't watch their heroes getting pwned half the time, and they would, because both sides are right about half the time.

too much to lose in the youtube generation maybe.  Or just no interest for it, because viewers are stupid and would rather watch a hate-filled screamer than someone seeking to find common ground between you and that no-good, piece of shit lazy neighbor.

right, so that pretty much goes with what I asked in the first post: "In a world where we don't give a shit if it goes past a minute is it even possible?"

again, not very promising for our future if that's the way it's going to be.

Maybe we're all just satisfied with most of our thinking done for us by a few jerkoffs on TV...  I guarantee that's not going to have a good outcome for the people down the road.

Well-said. We'd be better off following independent media outlets and discussion forums like this one.

The only people on the media news outlets who mattered to me were Pat Buchanan and Andrew Napolitano, and they're both gone now.  :-\

Gee Whiz Hugo-- You're so wise and smart. I am shocked and appalled to learn that none of the major media outlets are aware of your extensive and informative record on political commentary.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

When were these debates that "we" used to have?

Who participated?

I was merely pointing out that someone of your intellect would be a welcomed addition to any debate on political discourse.

why are you so upset?  What do I do any different than others on this board?  I post my opinions just like everyone else but for some odd reason it's wrong and worth your ridicule when I post opinions?.  Again, you've put yourself up here an intellectual, I never have.  Maybe you should check yourself on this buddy.

I am hurt.

Why can't I tout the virtues of my favorite getbig moderator without being insulted?

Ron will hear of this injustice.

Most "prominent minds" are outside of the mainstream.
