The American people have been made to pay more and more despite some tax cuts due to higher local/state taxes, bracket creep (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bracketcreep.asp#axzz23oy5T1OK), and the eroding real value of tax breaks.

So it fair that politicians want to take a bigger bite out of our budget in order to balance theirs?

Paying more taxes is total bullshit/

Giving more $$$$ to the government is like pouring booze down the neck of a whino passed out in the street.

Blacken, I'm interested in your take on this - should the government raise taxes even MORE, despite the fact that the real per capita tax burden is at a 30-year high?

raise the fed. taxes all you want.
those of us with really great CPA and financial planners dont have to worry.
why not change the tax laws instead?

It's not necessarily that easy... you'd have to earn income from different sources to lower your tax burden (e.g. muni bonds).
But I agree - let's "lower the rates and broaden the base." Meaning let's get rid of all of the special tax breaks while lowering tax rates. This should be done for a net tax cut.

Ok... so everyone agrees they should cut spending... Sooooo....
1. Where do you cut it
and
2. If we all say cut spending, then why does no one vote in someone who will ACTUALLY do that?

To me the fairest way is across the board.

I am good with that... So why don't we vote in someone who will do exactly that?
Why is Romney the god dam Republican nominee for President?
Why is everyone a spend and spend politician and why do we keep voting for them?
I guarantee you that if Romney wins the office, that NOTHING gets cut... Anyone care to take that bet? (Exception "Obamacare, HOWEVER, I would make a separate bet that it doesn't get eliminated either".

1. Gradually phase out both Social Security and Medicare by slowly raising the retirement age, remove taxes on savings so that people could save for their retirement without getting taxed on it. Eliminate the following departments: Education, Homeland Security, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Agriculture, Labor, Commerce, Interior. Eliminate the following agencies: NASA, EPA, National Infrastructure Bank, National Science Foundation, Corporation for National and Community Service, Small Business Administration. Phase in REAL cuts to the military budget. Turn the Department of Transportation into a grant system to the states and eventually phase that out. By the time you're done with this plan, you'll be able to detax the American public to the tune of tens of trillions of dollars.
2. I do ;D
