The relaxed shot is one my favourites.

i actually think he looked his best in the relaxed pics. he didnt have the biggest/best chest in the world, but with great shoulder/back etc development he looked awesome.

Man, that last pic Danny looks awesome

I never noticed how bad Franco was balding at the '81 Mr. O until I saw the above pics. Funny how he still sports a full head of hair Now - 25 years later!
-
Danny Padilla is quite strong, as well.
I have, on videotape, an episdoe of WBF BodyStars that has Padilla squatting (rock-bottom) with 405 for reps. And this is with a barbell, not on a Smith-Machine.
I often look at it, as motivation before training legs, which I have to do tomorrow.
I've only seen footage of him competing twice: Some of it from that episode of BodyStars, from the 1991 WBF Championship, and his full routine from the 1992 WBF Championship, in which he beats up a bald "giant" and poses around some jumbo mushrooms.

I didn't know this,
Padilla Interview:
[ Q ] What would be the low-light or the worst experience of your career?
The 75' Universe when filming Pumping Iron after I had trained all summer and was promised by the IFBB that I would represent the Light-Weight Champion of the World because I had won the USA that year.
We flew all the way to South Africa and did the photo shoots. I got to see Arnold, Louie and the rest of the guys at this time. It was all understood that Robbie would be the Middle-Weight, Mike Katz and Ken Waller would both pose down for the Heavy-Weight in South Africa, and I would be the Light-Weight.
Evidently they decided to have 2 Heavy-Weights and a Middle-Weight and to my surprise bumped me the morning of the show. Of course I was devastated because I was ready for the show, I had a really good chance of winning the Light-Weight championship of the World.
After being denied, I decided to go on Portugal’s team. It was funny, I would never forget, Oscar State said to me, “I thought you were on America’s team.” I said no, America doesn’t want me and Portugal didn’t have a lightweight on their team so why can’t I compete. My Mom was born in Spain and my Dad in Puerto Rico, they had to go by Portugal somewhere along the line.
Oscar’s statement to me was that so crazy ‘I gotta let you in‘. So they let me in and unfortunately for me I was on stage looking magnificent and I was in the final round, there was a protest which led to me being disqualified. The only conclusion I came to was because it was an embarrassment to the IFBB, how are you going to explain to everyone if Danny wins for Portugal.
After seeing me, the other countries I think were afraid of me so it as a good excuse to protest and get them to throw me out and that is what happened. That was how I ended up in the middle of South Africa talking to Arnold during Pumping Iron, seemingly appearing out of know where on the tape. He had come up to me and asked if I was ok, I said yeah and we just started talking about Franco and Ed Corney doing their routines.
I was initially in a lot of Pumping Iron and was taking out of it I guess, because of what happened. I was under the impression that Pumping Iron would have shown what I had gone through because it was filmed. But I don't think the IFBB wanted it to be seen because it was kind of embarrassing. I mean the IFBB is a great organization but again, how do you explain what happened to Dan Padilla – life goes on you know.

Here is a snapshot of Danny and Ed Corney on a bus tour of Kruger National Park in South Africa after the Olympia (Pumping Iron movie) . . . the gal in the middle is just marked on the back of the photo as "a fan" . . . the photo was included in a huge collection of Ed's material that he loaned to me for use on his new official website http://www.EdCorney.net
There is also an interview with Danny that I did a few weeks ago on that site.
Thanks - Joel

-
Crownshep is a major player on several boards . . . Love the guys efforts.
-
Crownshep, you're the man!!
Ah, yes and it appears the IFBB learned it's lesson from that fiasco and ran things honestly from then on... ::)

Damn crownshep, thanks a lot brother. You must have a ton of old magazines. Do you buy current ones too?
At the moment i`ve got about 1,000,i sold about 500 a couple of years ago on ebay.I haven`t bought any since 1999,the only one`s i buy now are the old Muscle Builder and Power off ebay from the early 70s.Thanks for the kind words guys,i like it when someone mentions an old pic or article from the 70s,it gives me a memory test as to which magazine its in,and when i find it,its fun to read the same articles i first read as a 16 year old kid. When most men pass 40,they buy a porsche to make them feel young,i read old mags. ;D

Do any of you happen to know any stats on Danny? Height, weight, measurements, I was in awe of the guy (still am actually) as I am of the height challenged catagory also. The guy is so thick and dense way ahead of his time, great lines and proportional.
-
Danny was about 5` 2" and around 175lbs,here`s a couple of leg stats.
-
Here's another one of Danny and Ed together . . . goofing around on the beach in Los Angeles when they lived and trained there together in the early 1980s. I told Ed that it's the ONLY photo he has where he's standing next to someone and looks really tall ;D

I have to agree w/the guys crownshep,...just love all the pics you put up from your magazine collection. Thanks for them pics & keep them coming,...brings back memories & I wish I had kept all of mine.In relation I went to my basement last night & found my old MuscleMag annual from 1981.Only mag I kept from that time as it was an annual & damn it brought back memories!Maybe if I learn to post pics i'll post some stuff from it.
-
i still say the guys of old looked best
-
is danny the guy in pumping Iron that jumps into arnolds arms and gets called a "sick guy"?
-
Nope, thats Eddie Guiliani i'm pretty positive. Danny's talking to Arnold in the Ed Corney posing area of the film.
-
Yes it's Eddie.
-
Eddies the guy who jumps into his arms.Danny is sat with Arnie when they watch Corney pose, and Franco doing his rear lat spread.
-
Arnie say's to Eddie....."You sick guy"
-
Yes, I agree, Crownshep is the man. I also totally agree with him on magazines
and enjoying the oldies. It's like I'm locked in that timeframe because the times
were soooo much simplier, purer, less complicated, showy, extreme, etc., etc.
And yes, Danny, The Dragon Slayer (of much bigger prey...), was screwed over,
I believe, in numerous contests. He's the perfect--and I emphasize, perfect--
example of what a short man can overcome and achieve, to their best advantage.
He used his shorter limbs to build an incredible physique, of rare equal.
One man's opinion.
-
oh yes thats right its eddie thanks guys!
