INFLATIONS....INFLATIONS .....100k is no longer the dream income so many thought it was decades ago, of course, it depends on where you live in the U.S making 6 balls.....living in washington D.C making 100k and living in florida making the same amount is where the difference comes in

where in MD?.....I know people living in frederick, MD who's making decent living on a 65k, but if you move 30 miles outside of frederick into a city like Rockville which is 15miles away from frederick, 65k will seem like 30k

$100K in the Midwest is still something to shoot for.

Median household income here is around $51,000.  :-\

On the west coast to live in a decent house in a good neighborhood I'd say about $200K per household.

In NYC, I'd say about $300k.

In Florida about $100K

In Vegas about $75k

In Tennessee about $50k

No kidding...Western PA is sweet. Although, Pittsburgh is crazy with their property tax rates. Taxes were more than my mortgage. And you can't pay down taxes - they just come back bigger and badder the older you get.

Same thing here in France. Specially, if you live in Paris (taxes are the same everywhere in France but the cost of life ain't). For a family of 4, living in Paris and not the suburbs, at least 200 K€/year minimum before taxes if you want to be able to have some kind of life.

I'm not sure a single person can live a "good life" in LA suburbs for 100k annually let along a fam of 4.

Anyway, where I live I'd say 200k.

X2.... Agreed.

I was reading this article about how you get the most for your money in the Midwest by far.  Columbus, Ohio is a modern clean city for example, and you can live there pretty nicely for not a lot of money.

My city is pretty decent, good restaurants, coffee shops, sushi, colleges, etc... You can purchase a mansion here in good condition for $500K  :o

define good life. If by good life you mean living in a house with enough rooms to support a family of 4 and a decent sized garden away from the shitty suburbs inhabited by violent third worlders, then whatever the occidental country you live in you ll need at least 200 000 to 300 000 US $ to own one.

The real question is how fast can you earn that money WITHOUT GETTING ANY MORTGAGE/DEBTS, preferably before you hit the 40s, if you didnt inherit shit from your parents who might have not cared much about your sorry ass. Then, what kind of job pays enough to sustain -with wife staying at home and taking care of you and kids, maybe working a part time job- such a lifestyle until you retire.
