He tore it up after turning pro at the same Nationals as Levrone. Won or placed in a bunch of shows. Did well at the 94 Olympia too. Was a firefighter in Kentucky (had that pretty cool cover of Flex in front of the fire engine in the 90s). Good symmetry...not a freak.
Then, 2000 hits and he's gone. Whatever happened to Porter?
-
I heard he decided to do something constructive with his life.
-
somebody will know better but I remember he retired after Benaziza's death.
I read in Musclemag at the time that he was trying to keep Momo alive in his hotel room with other people, but without success.

That was Brisebois who hung it up (he and Momo were tight). But you're right...Porter was there too and did the CPR as Momo puked up water and died in the hotel. But Momo croaked in 92, I think. And Porter retired in 1999.

my bad mate, my memory not always servers me well

Porter had said that he'd never do the Grand Prix again after he saw Momo died in front of him. Sure enough, he was back at it again a couple of years later. And like it was said above, went on competing for quite a few years. He was known for having a gigantic belly when offseason. Would be curious to see what he looks like after all these years.

The personification of the "Jacked Fireman"...
Yet another who held down a job while competing, and looked better than today's pros.
You see Joey Swoll and Derek you don't have to G4P to survive, just get a job and live within your means.

If the guys today cut their bodyweight by 10%, the look would be a lot more similar.

I just completed a two-part interview with Porter for MuscleMag. He didn't leave the sport because of Mo's death, and he's never had colitis. Essentially, Porter was sick of the drug situation and had grown tired of the competitive scene. Nothing dramatic at all. It was just time for him to pursue other interests.

Exactly. He said he was not willing to go to the extremes that others were doing for a $2500 pay check. If he competed today, I think he would be a worthy competitor in the 212's...Very hummble guy.

After his bodybuilding career ended, Porter became the fire chief of his county of residence......you see, there is life after bodybuilding

Porter is very happily married--and yes, to a woman--and he has a young son. And they don't live in Maine.

him and vince galanti were 2 of the very few white guys with almost perfect symetry and structure.
yes, the todays softness comes from not dieting as hard and being heavier in general.
its very simpler, the lighter one get during diet the harder he will look.
yep,,,vinny jersey guy seen him around and in 90's at show's awesome build all around, knew one of his diet guys then.
